The Honda Civic Type R (FL5) has been widely supported by sports car fans worldwide since its full model change in 2022. The current model will undergo its first major facelift in 2026.
According to Honda dealerships, the current model’s sales will end with the “third period order reception” of the Racing Black Package, and the facelifted version will be released in September 2026.
The Civic Type R HRC concept was first showcased at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2026, featuring a more aggressive style and advanced aerodynamic parts.
The new Civic Type R features a redesigned front and rear bumper, improving both aesthetics and functionality. The front bumper has a larger cooling opening area and shape, enhancing the cooling efficiency of the radiator and intercooler.
The rear bumper also features a redesigned diffuser, improving stability at high speeds. The large rear wing, carried over from the current model, works in conjunction with the new bumper to increase downforce performance.
The new design achieves both high-performance cooling and aerodynamics, providing a wide and stable impression.
The facelifted Civic Type R features a new infotainment system with Google built-in, allowing for seamless connectivity and navigation without the need for a smartphone.
The system includes Google Maps, Google Assistant, and Google Play, providing a range of features and applications. However, using Google’s services may require a subscription to Honda’s connected service.
The new Civic Type R retains the same 2L inline 4-cylinder VTEC turbo engine (K20C) as the current model, with a maximum output of 330 horsepower and 42.8 kg-m (420 N-m) of torque.
The engine control map and throttle response have been fine-tuned, providing a more responsive and enjoyable driving experience.
The Type R HRC is a new grade that features a more aggressive style, advanced aerodynamic parts, and a range of exclusive features, including a carbon fiber hood and roof, and a titanium exhaust system.
The Type R HRC is a limited-production model, with a predicted price tag of around 850,000 to 900,000 yen.
