Toyota Industries announced on January 29, 2024, that three new engine models had been found to be faulty following the engine emissions test fraud that was discovered on March 17, 2023. The affected engines are installed in Toyota Motor Corporation’s Hilux, Hiace, and Land Cruiser, among others. Newly discovered faulty engine models were also found for forklifts. On the same day, Toyota announced that it would halt shipments of diesel-powered vehicles, including six of the ten affected models sold domestically, including the Hiace and Land Cruiser 300.
Toyota Motor Corporation temporarily suspends shipments of all 10 models, including the Land Cruiser, Hiace, and Hilux.
The vehicles equipped with the affected diesel engines include the Land Cruiser Prado, Hiace, Granace, Bongo Brawny Evan (Mazda), Dyna, Dutro (Hino), Hilux (overseas), Fortuner, Hilux (Japan), Innova, Land Cruiser 300, and LX500d. Toyota Industries has re-examined the affected engines and mass-produced vehicles and confirmed that they meet the engine output standards, and has stated that there is no need to immediately suspend use of the vehicles.
