According to Jato Dynamics, the Tesla Model Y will overtake the Toyota RAV4 as the world’s best-selling car in 2023, preliminary data from JATO suggests.
The world’s best-selling cars of 2023
A few markets have yet to release their sales figures for 2023, but preliminary data collected by JATO Dynamics shows that the Model Y will be sold globally in total from January to December 2023, with 1.23 million units, making it the best-selling vehicle on the planet and the first electric car in history.
The second best-selling vehicle in 2023 will be the Toyota RAV4, with 1.07 million units currently sold globally, up from 1.02 million units in 2022 when it led the global market. The Toyota Corolla took third place in the rankings, including all body types, according to preliminary data.
The data covers global light vehicle sales in 2023, covering all larger markets (including the US, Europe, China and India). Data for the remaining markets is expected to be published during the second quarter of 2024.
