Considering the possibility of a new Pajero revival
Industry insiders have pointed out that this concept car may be a design study for the new Pajero. Since the first generation was released in 1982, the Pajero has been loved around the world as Mitsubishi Motors’ signature SUV, but sales in Japan ended in 2019.
It is still sold as the “Pajero Sport” in overseas markets, with the following specifications:
- Engine : 2.4L inline 4-cylinder diesel turbo (204ps/47.9kgm)
- Transmission : 8-speed automatic
- Drive system : 4WD (equipped with 4WD-II)
- Body size : Length 4,850mm x Width 1,875mm x Height 1,800mm
- Wheelbase : 2,850mm
It is entirely possible that the electric crossover SUV concept car unveiled this time will be revived in the Japanese market as a new Pajero equipped with a PHEV system. Mitsubishi Motors has the electrification technology it has cultivated with the Outlander PHEV, and by applying this to the new Pajero, it is hoped that a next-generation SUV that combines environmental friendliness and off-road capability will be realized.

The Mitsubishi Motors booth will offer a variety of interactive content for visitors to enjoy.
DRIVE YOUR FUTURE

This will create a special moment for users to look back on the history of Mitsubishi Motors and its relationship with its customers through the music from past commercials.

Expectations for the revival of the new Pajero and future prospects
Mitsubishi Motors has been focusing on electrification technology and SUV development in recent years, and the success of the Outlander PHEV is a symbol of this. The electric crossover SUV concept car unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show 2025 could very well be the first step towards commercializing the new Pajero.
By combining the Pajero’s traditional off-road performance with the latest electrification technology, we expect to see the birth of a next-generation SUV that combines environmental friendliness with a spirit of adventure. The spacious interior and glamping-friendly overnight camping functionality will likely propose a new style of outdoor leisure.
In addition, by incorporating Mitsubishi Motors’ four-wheel control technology “S-AWC” and a plug-in hybrid system, it is possible to achieve a high level of both on-road comfort and off-road performance.
