Google announced new updates and partnerships that will give you what you want most from Android Auto and Google-powered cars at CES 2024, the world’s largest technology trade show, which will be held from January 9th to 12th, 2024.
Google’s Android Auto 2024 update
A version of Android Auto will soon allow EVs to share real-time battery information with Google Maps, meaning the navigation system will soon be able to “provide estimated battery levels upon arrival at your destination, suggest charging stops along the way, and even estimate charging times based on your vehicle.”
Google-built models will be getting a host of new apps, including the popular Chrome browser, which is rolling out to select Polestar and Volvo vehicles as part of a beta test. The browser will be available in additional models later this year, and users will be able to read the latest car information on their car display. Going forward, users will be able to plan trips at home or elsewhere on their Android or iOS device and have them sent directly to their Google-built car.
Google Built-in is expected to be available in Ford, Lincoln, and Nissan vehicles in the second half of 2024, with Porsche joining the mix in the future.
Google said its digital key technology will be “rolling out soon to select Volvo cars, and to more phones and car brands in the future.”
