Acura unveiled an all-new electric coupe SUV concept car on August 15, 2024. The vehicle was unveiled at Monterey Car Week, held in California from August 9 to 18, 2024. It is the first model to use the new platform developed by Honda after the dissolution of its EV partnership with General Motors , and production is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2025, with the vehicle scheduled for release by the end of 2025.
What is Acura’s new electric coupe SUV concept?
This concept car features an innovative design that combines the sporty silhouette of a coupe with the practicality of an SUV. This new concept car has an attractive design with short overhangs and a compact midsection. According to Acura, the front end is inspired by hydrofoil superyachts, the rear quarters are inspired by the NSX, and from certain angles the rear end is reminiscent of Aston Martin design. These features combine to create a futuristic impression.

For reasons unknown, the concept car features a vented hood and vents on the sides, despite being an EV. It also features large 23-inch wheels with high-performance 295/35R23 tires.

Acura, emphasizing performance, employs large four-piston calipers with Moonlit White and neon green Acura logos, which in particular seem to be a reference to the Acura Electric Vision Design unveiled at last year’s Monterey Car Week.
The car will be equipped with a fully electric powertrain and will be environmentally friendly. It will be produced at Honda’s Ohio plant, which will be the base for EV production in North America.

Acura Performance EV Concept Teaser
The teaser images reveal sophisticated LED taillight graphics and an illuminated Acura emblem across the entire vehicle’s width. The sloping roofline and pronounced rear shoulders further emphasize the car’s dynamic styling.
Acura itself describes this model as a “segment-transcending sports utility vehicle,” showing its confidence in its innovative concept.
“Based on the all-electric 2024 Acura ZDX, our next electric SUV will be focused on providing Acura customers with an exhilarating driving experience,” said Mike Rangel, Acura vice president of national sales.
Honda accelerates its electrification strategy by adopting a platform specifically for EVs
The concept car will be Acura’s first mass-produced vehicle built on a dedicated EV platform. It is part of Honda’s mid- to large-size EV lineup announced last year, scheduled for market launch in 2025. Built on Honda’s latest EV platform and incorporating Honda’s new electrical and electronic (E&E) software architecture, the car will deliver superior driving performance and comfort.
Acura Performance EV pioneers new electric SUV market
Tentatively known as the “Acura Performance EV,” this new electric coupe SUV is a key model in Acura’s electrification strategy, following the Honda Prologue and Acura ZDX SUV, which are based on GM’s Ultium architecture. Based on teaser images, its proportions are similar to those of internal combustion engine (ICE) models such as the BMW X6 and Mercedes GLE Coupe, and it could potentially rival the Tesla Model X.
Acura aims to bring a breath of fresh air to the electric SUV market through this new electric coupe SUV concept. We can’t wait to see the full reveal at Monterey Car Week. We’ll be keeping an eye on Acura’s future electrification strategy.
