The 849 Testarossa, which Ferrari unveiled to the world on September 9, 2025 (local time), is the latest plug-in hybrid flagship model bearing the name of the legendary Testarossa supercar that dominated the 1980s and 1990s. This new model is positioned as the successor to the SF90 Stradale, and inherits one of the most iconic names in Ferrari’s 70-year history.
Powertrain and Performance: 1,035 horsepower hybrid system

849 Testarossa
The evolution of the V8 twin-turbo engine

At the heart of the new 849 Testarossa is a significantly upgraded, mid-rear mounted, twin-turbocharged V8 engine that produces 830 hp (819 horsepower), an increase of 50 hp over the previous SF90 Stradale.
Main improvements:
- Newly designed cylinder head
- Improved exhaust manifold
- Equipped with the largest turbocharger in Ferrari history
Hybrid system with three electric motors
The full hybrid system combines a V8 engine with three electric motors for a total output of 1,035 horsepower (772 kW).
Electric motor layout:
- Front axle: 2 motors with torque vectoring
- Between engine and gearbox: 1 motor
The two front motors operate up to 130 mph (209 km/h), with the rear motor providing full power beyond that. The 7.45 kWh battery pack allows for a maximum range of 25 km (15.5 miles) in EV mode, with a top speed limited to 80 mph (129 km/h).
Incredible acceleration performance

Performance figures for the coupe model:
- 0-100km/h acceleration: 2.2 seconds
- 0-200km/h acceleration: 6.3 seconds
- Maximum speed: 330km/h or more
The Spider model’s performance is slightly reduced due to its increased weight, but it still boasts impressive performance.

The origin and history of the name “Testarossa”
The name “Testarossa” actually dates back much further than the famous 1980s model. Ferrari racing cars from the 1950s were nicknamed “Testarossa” (“red head”) because of their red valve covers.
“We are not taking inspiration from past designs, nor do we want to simply look back,” explained Ferrari’s Chief Marketing and Commercial Officer, Enrico Galliera. “The name Testarossa originally came from the engine cover of the most powerful model in the range.”
Market deployment and pricing
Pricing for the new 849 Testarossa hasn’t been announced, but it’s expected to be more than the SF90 Stradale, which starts at around $470,000. Deliveries of both the coupe and spider models are scheduled to begin in 2025.
Summary: A hybrid flagship that symbolizes a new era for Ferrari
The 849 Testarossa is Ferrari’s perfect blend of traditional V8 engines and cutting-edge hybrid technology, setting new standards for supercars with its 1,035 horsepower, cutting-edge aerodynamics and sophisticated design.
This new model embodies Ferrari’s technological innovation and design philosophy for the electrified era, while respecting its rich history. Its evolution from the SF90 Stradale is more than just a facelift; it is a direct reflection of Ferrari’s vision for the supercar of the future.
