Honda of America officially announced its new fuel cell vehicle, the CR-V e:FCEV, on February 27, 2024 (local time) . It is the first vehicle in the US to combine a hydrogen fuel cell system with plug-in charging capability with a battery pack capable of an EV-only range of 47km. The Japanese model will also be released in 2024. This time, it will be revived as a fuel cell vehicle called the CR-V FCEV. The mass-production model of the CR-V FCEV will be exhibited at the 21st SMART ENERGY WEEK [Spring], to be held at Tokyo Big Sight from Wednesday, February 28, 2024 to Friday, March 1, 2024, and will make its world debut.
About the new Honda CR-V e:FCEV
Based on the CR-V SUV sold in North America, it is equipped with a fuel cell system jointly developed with GM. In addition to the FCEV’s advantage of being able to travel long distances with short refueling times, it also combines the convenience of an EV with the ability to be charged at home thanks to its plug-in functionality. The new powertrain, jointly developed with General Motors, is said to be one-third the cost and twice as durable as the Honda Clarity Fuel Cell. It is also said to have significantly improved low-temperature resistance.
