About the new Toyota GR86 (partially improved E-type)
Major improvements to the E-type: Improved safety in the event of engine failure
The engine control system has been improved so that in the unlikely event of a malfunction in the ignition circuit, the vehicle can continue driving by shutting down only the affected cylinder. This reduces the risk of the engine stalling completely and allows the vehicle to drive to a safe location.

About the Toyota “GR86”
Toyota has completely redesigned the new GR 86, with the Japanese model releasing on October 28, 2021. The previous model was released on March 28, 2012, marking the first full model change in nine years. It will be unveiled to the world on April 5, 2021. Subaru’s new BRZ , a sister car , was also unveiled at the same time.
About the second-generation Toyota GR 86 full model change
Development remains unchanged, with development departments sharing with Toyota Motor Corporation and Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd., a member of the Toyota Group (under Toyota), and cost reductions through the use of standardized parts. In an interview, Fuji Heavy Industries (SUBARU Corporation) President Yasuyuki Yoshinaga made it clear that the BRZ has no plans to end with one generation. The 86 and BRZ are popular as affordable sports cars, and the development of new models will help improve the corporate image of both companies. The exterior will retain its concept, while new models will be added to the engine lineup. The new SUBARU BRZ (US model) made its world debut on November 18, 2020. Like the first generation, it has a FR layout with a horizontally opposed engine .

The new 86, which maintains its concept, features more curvaceous bodywork than the previous model, a different bumper and hood at the front end, wider fenders, and of course new headlights. It also features a rear spoiler integrated into the boot and a set of the latest LED headlights. It also features a set of twin exhaust pipes and wide hip fenders. It incorporates know-how gained from the development of the Subaru Global Platform, as well as an inner frame structure and structural adhesives. Compared to the first-generation model, front lateral bending rigidity has been significantly improved by approximately 60% and torsional rigidity by approximately 50%. Lightweight aluminum is used for the roof, hood, and front fenders. Optimized front-to-rear and left-to-right weight distribution and a lower center of gravity have been achieved, improving driving performance. Vehicles equipped with 18-inch aluminum wheels are fitted with 215/40R18 Michelin Pilot Sport tires.
Toyota 2nd generation new GR 86 exterior
The lower and wider hexagonal grille emphasizes the low center of gravity, and the core-like shape that starts from the grille and continues to the rear expresses the strength of the trunk. The dynamic accents of the tapered cabin and powerfully jutting fenders heighten the expectation of a sports car-like driving experience. The body dimensions are 4,265mm in length, 1,775mm in width, 1,310mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2,575mm. Front and rear tires are 215/40 R18 (higher grade).

Toyota 2nd generation new GR 86 interior
The simple horizontal instrument panel and low-set meter visor ensure a wide field of view, providing an interior space where you can concentrate and enjoy driving. The interior is equipped with a digital meter that combines a 7-inch TFT LCD panel and a segment LCD panel.

Toyota’s second-generation GR 86 adopts the Subaru Global Platform (SGP)
It will adopt the ” Subaru Global Platform (SGP) .” The first vehicle to adopt this new generation platform, the SGP, was the new Impreza , which was released in November 2016. Development has continued to achieve a “dynamic quality” that is one class above the rest, including further improvements in collision safety, weight reduction, improved driving performance, and increased interior space through highly efficient packaging. The front suspension uses a “MacPherson strut” system and the rear a “double wishbone” system.

Toyota 2nd Generation New GR 86 Engine
The GR 86 is equipped with a new naturally aspirated 2.4L horizontally opposed 4-cylinder engine with port fuel injection (TOYOTA D-4S), which produces a maximum output of 173kW (235PS) at 7000rpm and a maximum torque of 250Nm (25.5kgm) at 3700rpm, and is available with either a standard 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. Torque has been improved by 15% over the previous model. AT-equipped vehicles feature improved SPORT mode control. When the car determines it is in sporty driving mode, it automatically performs optimal shifting in response to the driver’s intentions and operations, allowing for more direct cornering.
