New Harrier Minor Change Late Model Grade Renewal and Pricing: Easier Choice and Better Value

One of the major changes in this improvement is the revision of the grade structure. The previous entry grade “S” has been discontinued, and the new “G” grade has become the starting line for the Harrier. As a result, the entire lineup has been consolidated into higher quality, more fully equipped grades, emphasizing the premium image that the Harrier is known for. In line with this change, the price range of the new Harrier has shifted from 3,710,300 yen to 6,260,100 yen (including consumption tax).

Of particular note is the addition of a new “G” grade to the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model. Until now, PHEVs were only available in the top-of-the-line “Z” grade, but the addition of the “G” grade has greatly expanded the range of PHEV options. The PHEV “G” grade achieves a strategic price of 5,470,300 yen by changing the seat material to a combination of fabric and synthetic leather and optimizing certain equipment such as the power passenger seat and hands-free power tailgate. This has made PHEV models, which boast high environmental friendliness and driving performance, more accessible to a wider range of users.

The existing gasoline and hybrid models have also been equipped with more comprehensive equipment in each grade (G, Z, Z Leather Package). For example, the “G” grade now comes standard with a parking support brake (with added pedestrian detection function), blind spot monitor (with safe exit assist function), heated front seats, and a large 12.3-inch display audio, significantly improving safety and comfort. As a result, the “G” grade boasts a high level of perfection that is essentially comparable to the previous high-end grades, and is positioned as the core grade of the new Harrier.

The “Z” grade comes standard with a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, and a panoramic view monitor, improving convenience and comfort. The “Z Leather Package” grade comes standard with a panoramic view monitor, as well as wireless charging (just place the car on the charger) and digital key compatibility, making it a standout among the top-of-the-line grades.

Due to these improvements in equipment, the price of each grade has risen by approximately 140,000 to 180,000 yen from the previous model, but considering the added equipment, it can be said that the price is quite reasonable. The new Harrier’s value has been further enhanced by optimizing the grade structure and enhancing the equipment.

Introducing the special edition “Night Shade” vehicle: Sophistication created by jet black

The most notable feature of this improvement is the introduction of the special edition “Z “Leather Package Night Shade” and “Z “Night Shade.” This special edition vehicle is a package that was also offered on the overseas model of the Harrier, the ” Venza, ” and has been well-received. Based on the hybrid model “Z” and “Z Leather Package” grades, the stylishness of the Harrier is further accentuated by the addition of black accents to the interior and exterior.

On the exterior, gloss black and black paint is applied throughout, from the front upper grille, headlight inners (blackened reflectors), under bumper, side sills, door handles, outer mirror covers, roof rails, and even the specially designed aluminum wheels. This creates a sharp, muscular impression and a deep, high-quality feel that sets it apart from the standard model. In particular, the blacked-out interiors of the headlights give the front face a sharp look, emphasizing the individuality that is unique to the Night Shade Package.

This special edition vehicle not only enhances the design, but also comes equipped with the latest safety features as standard, including the Proactive Driving Assist and Blind Spot Monitor with Safe Exit Assist, which will be discussed later, achieving a high level of both design and safety.

Prices range from 4,870,800 yen (FF), approximately 100,000 yen higher than the base hybrid “Z” grade, to 5,410,900 yen for the 4WD model based on the “Z Leather Package,” which is an attractive price considering the special equipment included. The Night Shade Package is the perfect choice for customers who want even more individuality and sophistication in their Harrier.

New Harrier Minor Change Late Model Exterior and Interior Refinement: Consolidation of Options and Pursuit of Quality

Regarding the exterior design, the basic form retains the elegant style of the current model, but the color lineup has been revised. For gasoline and hybrid models, four colors – “Slate Gray Metallic,” “Sensual Red Mica,” “Steel Blonde Metallic,” and “Dark Blue Mica” – have been discontinued and consolidated into three popular colors: “Precious Black Pearl,” “Black,” and “Platinum White Pearl Mica.” For PHEV models, three colors will be available, including “Precious Black Pearl,” “Platinum White Pearl Mica,” and the exclusive color “Gray Metallic.” This narrowing of the color lineup is thought to be intended to improve production efficiency as well as to further clarify the high-quality image that the Harrier has.

The interior options have also been consolidated. The popular gray interior has been discontinued, and the interior color scheme is now limited to two colors: a chic “black” and a “brown” that creates a high-quality space. This lineup, which emphasizes a calm atmosphere, can be said to reflect the preferences of the Harrier’s target users. The high-quality materials and meticulous construction have been carried over from the previous model, and combined with the new enhanced equipment, it provides an even more comfortable and satisfying interior space. In particular, the 12.3-inch display audio that comes standard on the “G” grade, and the panoramic view monitor and heated steering wheel that come standard on the “Z” grade and above, will further enrich your daily driving experience.

Heated steering wheels and heated seats (driver and passenger seats) are standard equipment on all grades, and cold weather specifications are standard on all grades. The “Just Place and Charge” and digital key are standard on the Z grade (PHEV model) and Z “Leather Package” grade.

New Harrier Minor Change Late Model Evolution of Advanced Safety Equipment: For a Safer and More Comfortable Drive

The new Harrier further enhances the functionality of Toyota’s advanced safety package, “Toyota Safety Sense,” to provide even more advanced safe driving assistance.

The most notable feature of this improvement is the adoption of Proactive Driving Assist (PDA). This system anticipates risks based on the driving situation and gently supports the driver with steering and braking to prevent getting too close to danger. For example, if it determines that the vehicle is going too fast for a curve ahead, or if the vehicle is getting too close to a preceding vehicle or a pedestrian or cyclist, it will assist with deceleration, thereby assisting the driver to maintain a safe distance and driving line at all times. This helps reduce driver fatigue and provides an environment in which the driver can concentrate on driving with greater peace of mind.

In addition, the detection scope of the Parking Support Brake (PKSB) has been expanded. In addition to the previous detection of stationary objects in front and behind the vehicle and vehicles approaching from behind, it now also detects pedestrians behind the vehicle. This helps to reduce collision damage when driving at low speeds, such as when parking.

Furthermore, the Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) now includes the Safe Exit Assist (SEA) function. This function alerts occupants by illuminating an indicator, sounding a buzzer, and displaying a warning on the door mirrors when it detects a vehicle (including a bicycle) approaching from behind while exiting the vehicle. This reduces the risk of an accident caused by opening the door and supports safe entry and exit.

These advanced safety features are also found in the latest Prius, demonstrating that the new Harrier always incorporates Toyota’s latest technologies. This provides high levels of safety and comfort for the driver and passengers in all situations, from driving in urban areas to long-distance highway drives.

New Harrier minor change late model powertrain and driving performance: Proven unit continues to be installed

There are no major changes to the powertrain in this upgrade. The current model will continue to be equipped with the highly acclaimed 2.0L inline-four Dynamic Force engine (gasoline model) and the Toyota Hybrid System II (THS II) (hybrid and PHEV models) based on the 2.5L inline-four Dynamic Force engine.

The 2.0L engine installed in the gasoline model delivers a maximum output of 171ps and a maximum torque of 207Nm, and when combined with the Direct Shift-CVT, it combines a direct and smooth driving feel with excellent fuel economy. WLTC mode fuel economy is 15.4km/L for the FF model and 14.7km/L for the 4WD model.

The hybrid model combines a 2.5L engine (178ps/221Nm) with a front motor (120ps/202Nm), for a maximum system output of 218ps (FF). The 4WD E-Four model adds a rear motor (54ps/121Nm), for a maximum system output of 222ps. Combined with an electric continuously variable transmission, it achieves both powerful and smooth acceleration and impressively low fuel consumption, boasting excellent WLTC mode fuel economy figures of 22.3km/L for the FF model and 21.6km/L for the E-Four model.

The PHEV model, based on a hybrid system, is equipped with a high-capacity lithium-ion battery with a total capacity of 18.1 kWh and a higher-output front motor (182 hp/270 Nm). The system’s maximum output reaches 306 hp, delivering impressive power performance. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in a swift 6.0 seconds. With an EV-equivalent driving range of 93 km (WLTC mode), the majority of daily driving can be covered on electric power alone. Fuel economy in hybrid driving is also excellent, at 20.5 km/L (WLTC mode). It also features an external power supply function with a maximum output of 1500 W (AC 100 V), making it useful for outdoor leisure activities or as an emergency power source in the event of a disaster.

The body size (length 4,740mm x width 1,855mm x height 1,660mm, wheelbase 2,690mm) and suspension settings that achieve a high level of balance between ride comfort and handling stability are basically the same as the current model, and the comfortable and refined driving that is unique to the Harrier is still alive and well. With a proven powertrain and a mature platform, it will continue to provide a reliable and refined driving experience.

New Harrier minor change safety equipment

The new Harrier minor change model adopts the latest safety system “Toyota Safety Sense” , which will significantly improve driver safety and comfort. One notable new feature is “Proactive Driving Assist”. This function detects vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, etc. ahead, predicts driver operations, and gently controls vehicle behavior as needed.

Additionally, the new “Advanced Park” feature is likely to be added, which will improve the convenience of parking the Harrier. This feature will recognize the surrounding environment and automatically park the vehicle for the driver.

The car is also expected to be equipped with an “Advanced Drive (Traffic Jam Assist)” function that supports driving on highways and expressways , reducing stress when stuck in traffic and improving comfort on long-distance drives.

In addition to these new features, the existing Toyota Safety Sense features will also be updated to provide even more advanced safety performance. For example, the detection capabilities of the pre-crash safety system are expected to be improved, and the accuracy of detecting pedestrians and cyclists at night is expected to be improved.

In this way, the facelifted new Harrier model brings together the latest safety technologies and is expected to provide a more comfortable driving experience while protecting the safety of the driver and passengers.

New Harrier minor change expected specifications

The minor change is not expected to result in any major changes to the basic specifications of the Harrier. The two engines used in the current model are excellent in terms of performance and have a proven track record of being widely used in other popular Toyota models.

crown sports phev TNGA

The hybrid model is expected to continue to use the 2.5L inline 4-cylinder direct injection engine “DynamicForce Engine” combined with a motor. This powertrain offers a good balance of fuel efficiency and driving performance, and it is likely to continue to be used even after the minor change.

The gasoline model is also expected to be equipped with the 2.0L inline 4-cylinder direct injection “DynamicForce Engine” unchanged. This engine has excellent performance, combining low fuel consumption with high power output.

The body size is also likely to remain the same. The Harrier’s sophisticated design and moderate body size are popular with many users, so it is thought that major changes will be avoided.

However, the biggest concern about the new Harrier is the price, which will be affected by rising prices. Due to rising raw material and parts procurement costs, the selling price may be higher than the current model.

Additionally, slight improvements in fuel economy are expected. Optimization of the engine control system and adoption of lightweighting technologies may result in improved fuel economy compared to the current model.

Furthermore, in terms of driving performance , ride comfort and handling stability may be improved by fine-tuning the suspension and steering system, which may result in a more comfortable and stable driving experience.

When will the new Harrier undergo its first minor change?

The current Harrier went on sale on June 17, 2020. It was initially expected that a minor change would be made in 2024, the fourth year of the model’s life, but the latest information suggests that the change will take place on June 11, 2025. Toyota’s plan is to make the Harrier a minor change not within 2024, but the following year, in 2025. This timing was likely decided based on the current model’s sales and market trends, as well as the development cycle of new technologies. The minor change is expected to bring a wide range of improvements, including a revamped exterior design, the latest safety features, and improved fuel efficiency. For Harrier fans, the 2025 minor change is likely to be a major focus of attention.

Should we wait for the new Harrier minor change?

The bottom line is whether you should wait for the Harrier’s minor change. Sure, a price increase is inevitable, but the benefits outweigh that.

First of all, it is expected to be equipped with the latest safety features . With the adoption of Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, it is likely that more advanced driver assistance functions will be added, which will significantly improve safety.

The interior design is also expected to be revamped, with new materials and colors being adopted, and a larger infotainment system being installed, creating a more comfortable and luxurious interior space.

Regarding the exterior , the front grille, headlights, and rear combination lamps have been refreshed, and we can expect a more refined design, which will further enhance the appeal of the Harrier.

Furthermore, improved fuel economy is expected. Improvements to the hybrid system are likely to improve fuel economy compared to the current model, which will lead to reduced maintenance costs in the long run.

Considering these improvements, it can be said that the Harrier after the minor change will be a more attractive option than the current model. Although a price increase is inevitable, it is expected that the added value will outweigh the price increase. Therefore, if you are considering buying a new car, we recommend waiting for the minor change. Toyota fully redesigned the new Harrier , announcing it on April 13, 2020, and releasing it on June 17. This is the first full model change in about seven years (six and a half years), and the exterior design remains the same concept.

Here is a summary of all the information related to the new Harrier:

By adopting a newly developed platform called the TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) “TNGA-K platform,” the car has a lower center of gravity and body rigidity that is 1.78 times stronger, making it a significant improvement over the previous model. The suspension uses a MacPherson strut system in the front and a double wishbone system in the rear. From my perspective, the fourth-generation Harrier has evolved from the fluffy ride of the previous model to a firmer ride, realizing a new era of driving performance.

  • Adopts TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) “TNGA-K platform.”
  • It features a sophisticated “traditional front grille.” The headlights are sharper, with two L-shaped, DRL (Daytime Running Light) “signature lamps” to emphasize individuality and advanced technology.
  • The rear combination lamp lights up in a single horizontal line.
  • The next-generation “Toyota Safety Sense” is standard on all vehicles.
  • It features a new in-line 4-cylinder 2.5L direct injection engine D-4S (Dynamic Force Engine) and a high-performance multi-stage THS II hybrid system.
  • The high-end grade “Z” and above are equipped with a “12.3-inch wide touchscreen T-Connect SD navigation system.”

It’s instantly recognizable as a Harrier, but it features a more sophisticated, traditional front grille. The “Moroccan Harrier” hawk emblem used on previous Harrier models has been abolished , and a new “Toyota emblem” has been adopted. The headlights are sharper, with two L-shaped headlights and DRL (Daytime Running Light) “signature lamps” to emphasize individuality and advanced features. LED headlights (Adaptive High Beam System [AHS]) are also adopted.

The side view, with its simple yet dynamically changing body cross-section, creates a rich expression and a strong sense of movement. The sleek coupe form is enhanced by the rear’s sharp, horizontally shining rear combination lamps and LED high-mounted stop lamps (Z “Leather Package”; standard on the Z) reminiscent of the Lexus UX and Cayenne Coupe , lending it a striking presence. Seven subdued colors are available. The body color is Precious Black Pearl, featuring Self-Restoring Coat, a paint technology that automatically repairs paint scratches. This allows for a more spacious interior than the previous model. The newly developed platform achieves high aerodynamic performance, resulting in a lower center of gravity and a 1.78x increase in body rigidity, a significant improvement over the previous model. The suspension employs MacPherson struts in the front and double wishbone suspension in the rear. Thorough testing and tuning have resulted in a ride quality that combines solidity and suppleness. In order to improve the convergence of vehicle behavior at the moment of starting to drive and at high speeds, shock absorbers that ensure smooth stroke movement even at extremely low speeds are used. To improve quietness, a large amount of vibration-damping and sound-insulating materials are used in the engine room, under the floor, around the doors, front and rear liners, and inside the vehicle, resulting in a ride that aims for “high quality, elegance, and urban style” (MIYABI). The second-generation “Next Generation Toyota Safety Sense” is installed as standard on all vehicles.

There will be two grades available: a gasoline engine and a hybrid engine, each with a Z, G, and S trim level. The Z and G trim levels will include a Leather Package with genuine leather seats. The downsized 2.0L turbo engine, the 8AR-FTS, will be discontinued.

The gasoline engine is equipped with a “2.0L inline 4-cylinder direct injection Dynamic Force Engine” + “Direct Shift-CVT” that achieves a maximum thermal efficiency of over 40%, the same as the new “RAV4.” The hybrid model uses the same 2.5L inline 4-cylinder direct injection D-4S “Dynamic Force Engine” as the new “Camry,” and a compact and lightweight hybrid system “High-Performance Multi-Stage THS II,” achieving improved fuel economy. Catalog specs: JC08 mode fuel economy: 21.4km/L to 24.0km/L.

An 8.0-inch display audio system is standard, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available. A dedicated communication device, DCM, is standard on all vehicles, and T-Connect services are provided free of charge for three years. A 12.3-inch wide touchscreen T-Connect SD navigation system is available as an option and on the higher grade “Z” and above. The steering wheel and meters on the “G” grade and above feature an Optitron twin meter and a multi-information display (7-inch TFT color). An electrostatic heater control panel with touch-sensitive controls for the air conditioning and audio is also available. The interior colors are synthetic leather in three colors: black, brown, and gray, while genuine leather comes in two colors: black and brown. A panoramic roof with electric shades and light-adjusting glass is a first for Toyota. (Z “Leather Package”, manufacturer option on Z)

The new Harrier employs an “electric parking brake & hold” system around the shift knob. The fact that it is positioned so that the “hold” button can be pressed at the same time as pressing the “engine start button” is a typical Toyota design.

The “Moroccan harrier (flying in the air)” hawk logo, which has been used on previous Harrier models, can be seen inside the car. The accelerator pedal is an organ type. Panasonic’s “Nanoe X” technology, which removes pollen, allergens, odors, mold, bacteria, viruses, PM2.5, etc., is standard equipment.

Harrier equipment list

The fourth-generation new Harrier will be equipped with the Next Generation Toyota Safety Sense, which will significantly add new features and improve safety. Pre-Collision Safety will be able to recognize pedestrians and bicycles at night, Lane Departure Alert will increase the number of road detection items, and Lane Tracing Assist will assist the driver in steering to keep the vehicle in the center of the lane when using radar cruise control, reducing the burden on the driver.

Road Sign Assist displays road signs (‘speed limit’, ‘stop’, ‘no entry’, ‘no going outside’) on the instrument panel to prevent you from forgetting to look.

The now-defunct “Blind Spot Monitor (Rear Vehicle Approach Warning)” was not adopted in the previous model, but will be adopted in the new model. The “Rear Cross Traffic Alert” system, which utilizes a similar sensor, can detect vehicles behind and mitigate rear-end collisions. Beyond appearances, the third and fourth generations have made significant improvements.

About the Harrier partial improvement 2022 model

  • A new “PHEV model” will be added.
  • It is equipped with the latest enhanced preventive safety package, “Toyota Safety Sense,” which includes features such as “low-speed acceleration suppression function,” “detection of oncoming vehicles and pedestrians when turning right at intersections,” and “emergency steering avoidance support function.”
  • It uses a 12.3-inch TFT display full LCD digital meter .
  • The navigation system has been changed to “Connected Navigation.”
  • HDMI and in-car Wi-Fi are available as options, and the USB port has been changed from Type A to Type C.

Toyota will make partial improvements (annual improvements) to the Harrier and will announce them on September 26, 2022, with the gasoline and hybrid models to be released on October 4, 2022. A newly added plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) will be released on October 31, 2022.

The improvements include the addition of a panoramic view monitor as standard equipment on the Z and Z “Leather Package” grades. New interior colors are also available. The latest preventive safety package, “Toyota Safety Sense,” boasts advanced features and improved functionality, including low-speed acceleration suppression, detection of oncoming vehicles and pedestrians when turning right at intersections, and emergency steering assistance. The “Driver Abnormality Response System” has been adopted, and a curve speed suppression function has been added to the “Radar Cruise Control.” A new PHV model has been added. The higher-grade trim level now features a 12.3-inch TFT display (full LCD digital meter) instead of the 7.0-inch TFT color multi-information display and Optitron meter. The navigation system has been upgraded to a “Connected Navigation” system. An HDMI port and in-car Wi-Fi are now available as options. The USB port has been upgraded from Type A to Type C. Equipped with the latest preventive safety package “Toyota Safety Sense”

Added features include “Low-speed acceleration suppression function,” “Detection of oncoming vehicles and pedestrians moving straight when turning right at an intersection,” and “Emergency steering avoidance support function.” The low-speed acceleration suppression function detects pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles directly in front of the vehicle at low speeds and suppresses acceleration. It can also detect oncoming vehicles moving straight when turning right at an intersection, and pedestrians crossing from the opposite direction when turning right or left. The emergency steering avoidance support function assists steering when the driver makes an evasive maneuver in an emergency.

Curve speed suppression function: The radar cruise control (with full-speed tracking function) controls acceleration and deceleration to maintain a constant distance from the vehicle ahead within a set vehicle speed on expressways, etc., and now has a curve speed suppression function that slows down in advance according to the size of the curve.

If the driver continues to make no changes during Lane Tracing Assist (LTA) control, the system will prompt the driver to take action with sound, visual and gradual deceleration warnings, and will also alert people outside the vehicle with hazard lights and a horn while slowing down and stopping within the vehicle’s lane, helping to avoid accidents involving damage to the vehicle or other parties involved, and reducing the damage caused by such accidents.

Harrier popular grades – what is the recommended grade?

The new Harrier is available in grades “S”, “G”, “G “Leather Package”, “Z”, and “Z “Leather Package”, and you can also choose between a hybrid and a gasoline-powered vehicle. This makes it very difficult to decide which one to choose. In terms of total cost, a gasoline-powered vehicle is cheaper, but if you want a comfortable ride, you should also consider a hybrid.

Exterior comparison

  • “S” and “G” : The “G” is attractive when it comes to appearance and convenient features such as “chrome plating on the front and rear” and “LED daytime running lights.”

Interior comparison

  • “G” : Luxurious features such as a power tailgate, illuminated entry system, and digital inner mirror are standard equipment. It also comes with a full complement of advanced technology and safety features, so if you’re looking for a car over 3 million yen, the difference of 300,000 yen makes the “G” worth choosing.

Furthermore, if you want to experience the fully redesigned equipment, we recommend the Z, which comes equipped with a 12.3-inch T-Connect SD navigation system, a hands-free power tailgate, and a color head-up display.

conclusion

The most recommended grade for the new Harrier is the Z “Leather Package.” If you have the budget, consider a hybrid vehicle.
