Suzuki India is developing a new three-row SUV (Y17) and plans to release it between 2025 and 2027. The SUV will be larger than the Grand Vitara , which Maruti Suzuki India announced on July 20, 2022 .
Suzuki’s new large 3-row SUV model
Suzuki’s large three-row SUV, codenamed Y17, will debut in 2025 with an optional self-charging hybrid powertrain, reports Autocar . The model will share its underpinnings with the 4,345mm-long Grand Vitara, and its stretched body will allow space for an additional row of seats and a larger trunk. Maruti Suzuki India CEO Hisashi Takeuchi acknowledged that the company does not have enough SUVs in its local lineup and there are still “gaps” that can be filled by offering “lower and higher-end models.” ” If customers want a larger SUV, we will meet that need ,” he said.
Suzuki India’s new Grand Vitara
Suzuki has developed the new Grand Vitara as its global flagship SUV. The exterior emphasizes the shoulder line and front and rear fenders to express the strength of an SUV, and features a distinctive triple LED lamp at the front, a chrome bar connecting the left and right lamps, and a polygonal grille.
The interior features a rigid instrument panel and a wide console, giving it the impression of a sturdy SUV, while the instrument panel and trim are made of synthetic leather with silver stitching in a two-tone Bordeaux and black color scheme. It is equipped with advanced features such as an all-round monitor and a head-up display, and is compatible with Suzuki Connect, a connected service offered by Maruti Suzuki in India, as well as comfortable features such as a wireless charger and rear seat air conditioning vents.
The powertrain features a mild hybrid and the hybrid system “Intelligent Electric Hybrid” which is being introduced for the first time in India, and the 4WD model is the first in India to feature “ALLGRIP” which allows four driving modes to be easily selected with a dial.
What is Grand Vitara?
It was produced and sold as an overseas model of the Escudo (known overseas as Vitara) sold in Japan, but production ended in 2015 when the Escudo underwent a full model change to its fourth generation. The name will be revived for the first time in about seven years as a model produced in collaboration with Toyota Motor Corporation in 2022. The current model is more refined than the Escudo, and it would be worth selling the “Grand Vitara” as a higher-end model in Japan.
