2024 Toyota Hilux Australia
The Australian model has already announced a facelift model, but what’s particularly noteworthy is that the engine has been upgraded to include a 2.8L 4-cylinder turbo diesel and 48V mild hybrid technology. It would be great if the Japanese model also had this added!

In addition to the larger display audio, a new infotainment system has been installed , and in addition to the ” Connected Navigation ” system also found in the new Noah and Voxy , Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also available. A USB-C charging port has also been added. This system features a smartphone-like UI, but there are some issues with usability. The final navigation guidance on the navigation system is also not satisfactory, and improvements are expected in a version upgrade.
2.8L 4-cylinder turbodiesel 48V mild hybrid engine used in overseas models
The Hilux Hybrid 48V is equipped with an updated version of the 2.8L four-cylinder turbodiesel engine. It features a 48V mild-hybrid system consisting of an electric motor/generator and a small battery pack. Toyota has not released detailed specifications for the powertrain, but a previous press release from Toyota Australia stated that the mid-size pickup’s fuel economy has improved by 10%. Electrification improves off-road performance through “smoother acceleration” and “regenerative braking.” The mild-hybrid pickup maintains the 3,500kg towing capacity and 1,000kg maximum payload capacity of its diesel-only predecessor.

Sales of the Triton also seem to be going well, so it will be interesting to see which will sell better, the Hilux or the Triton. We will let you know as soon as we have new information, so please look forward to the arrival of the minor change model.
