Harrier minor change in 2025?

There are rumors that Toyota Motor Corporation’s Harrier will undergo a minor change in 2025, about five years after its full model change in 2020. In 2022, improvements were made, such as the addition of the Harrier PHEV and a larger display audio, but a full-scale minor change is expected in 2025. There are many areas where improvements are expected, such as changes to the exterior, changes to the headlight and bumper design, and a change in the position of the rear turn signals, as well as the addition of a map display function to the cockpit LCD display. The addition of special edition models is also expected.

As of June 14, 2024, there is no official information from Toyota regarding the new Harrier model. However, a CG image of the next-generation Harrier, featuring the new “Hammerhead” common design, has been created, and expectations are high for its evolution.

When will the new Harrier undergo its first minor change?

The current Harrier has been on sale since June 17, 2020, and it was initially expected that a minor change would be made in 2024, its fourth year, but the plan is now to make a minor change around 2025 rather than within 2024.

What kind of car is the new 4th generation Harrier? Introducing the differences before and after the minor change

The new Harrier shares the same TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) “TNGA-K” platform as the Camry and RAV4. Thanks to a lower center of gravity and 1.78 times increased body rigidity, the overall length has increased by 15mm and the overall width by 20mm compared to the previous model. The overall height has been reduced by 30mm, and the wheelbase has been extended by 30mm. These changes result in a lower, wider styling. The current Harrier’s flowing turn signals have been eliminated, and the “Morning Harrier” hawk emblem used on previous Harriers has been replaced with a new “Toyota emblem.” The headlights are sharper, with two L-shaped headlights and DRL (Daytime Running Light) “signature lamps” emphasizing individuality and advanced design. LED headlights (Adaptive High Beam System [AHS]) are adopted. The rear combination lamps feature a single-character design, creating an elegant and bold appearance.

The grade system has also been revamped, with three new grades, “S”, “G” and “Z”, replacing the previous “ELEGANCE”, “PREMIUM” and “PROGRESS”. The “Z” grade also comes with a genuine leather package. New equipment such as a photochromic glass moonroof and front and rear digital inner mirrors with dashcams are also noteworthy. On the exterior, the Toyota emblem has been adopted, and the previous Marsh Harrier emblem has been discontinued.

The navigation display has been updated to 12.5 inches, and a new brown interior color has been added. A digital inner mirror that can record images of the front and rear has also been added. An “electric parking brake & hold” system has been adopted around the shift knob. The “G” grade is equipped with 18-inch aluminum wheels, while the “Z” grade is equipped with 19-inch wheels.

In 2022, a minor change was made to the car, which added the Harrier PHEV, adopted a 12.3-inch TFT full LCD digital meter , and was equipped with the latest enhanced preventive safety package, “Toyota Safety Sense,” which includes features such as “low-speed acceleration suppression function,” “detection of oncoming vehicles and pedestrians when turning right at intersections,” and “emergency steering avoidance support function.”

New Harrier Grade Details and Sales Price

You can choose from grades “S”, “G” and “Z”.

  • S: Entry grade
  • G: Intermediate grade
  • Z: High grade
  • Z “Leather Package” genuine leather seat model

S grade features

Harrier

Harrier S grade

The S grade is the cheapest entry-level model. Even though it’s a Harrier, if you choose the gasoline S grade, you can purchase it for just 3,128,000 yen. The exterior is equipped with LED headlights and 17-inch wheels. The interior has fabric seats in one color. (Leather isn’t always the best.) The steering wheel is wrapped in genuine leather, and the door trim is also wrapped in synthetic leather, which is great.

G grade features

Harrier

Harrier G grade

The G grade is a mid-range model that offers a good deal, and if you select the gasoline-powered G grade, you can purchase it from 3,529,000 yen. The exterior has a Harrier-like design, with chrome moldings on the front and rear bumpers and LED daytime running lights, unlike the S grade headlights. Furthermore, it features 18-inch aluminum wheels with a machined finish and dark gray metallic paint, and the interior has been significantly changed, with fabric and synthetic leather seats available in three colors.

Z grade characteristics

Harrier

Harrier Z grade

The Z grade is a premium model, and some may find it a bit pricey. However, if you select the gasoline-powered Z grade, you can purchase it starting at ¥4,038,000. That’s well into the ¥4 million range. However, the exterior design, featuring 19-inch aluminum wheels with a Super Chrome Metallic finish exclusive to the Z grade and long LED high-mounted stop lamps on the rear spoiler, makes it easy to tell it’s a Z grade. The interior comes standard with a 12.3-inch full LCD meter and a 12.3-inch display audio system with a JBL premium sound system, and the difference is obvious when you’re inside. A subtle but welcome addition is the Smart Entry system, which allows you to open and close the rear seats with just a touch of a knob. I chose the Z “Leather Package” grade, and unlocking the rear seat knob is convenient if you use it frequently.

Harrier model change history

Developed as a “crossover SUV that combines the ride quality and comfort of a luxury saloon,” this pioneering model pioneered a new genre known as “luxury crossover SUV.” The first model was released in 1997.

First generation SXU・ACU・MCU1#

Released in December 1997. Based on the platform of the Camry (6th generation Camry XV20 series). Production ended in January 2003.

2nd generation ACU・MCU・GSU3#

It underwent a full model change and was released on February 17, 2003. It further improved the appeal of the first generation. A hybrid model was added in 2005 and became a huge hit. The third generation, which underwent a full model change in 2009, was transferred to Lexus dealerships in the Japanese market (RX series). However, the Harrier, which also enjoyed strong support, continued to be sold domestically. As a result, it was produced for nine years until 2012. A partial improvement was made on January 10, 2006. Production ended in September 2013. Sales ended on October 24, 2013. Sales ended on October 24, 2013.

3rd generation ZSU6#W/ASU6#W/AVU65W (Japan domestic model only)

A full model change was announced on November 13, 2013. The third-generation Harrier was released as a Japan-only vehicle. In fact, it is sold overseas as the new RAV4. The gasoline-powered vehicle was released on December 2, 2013. The hybrid vehicle was released on January 15, 2014. The “G’s” model was released on January 30, 2015. After two and a half years, it underwent a partial improvement on June 2, 2015 .

On June 8, 2017, a major minor change was made after three and a half years. The previous GRAND grade was discontinued. A new premium model, PROGRESS, was introduced. The newly developed downsized turbo “2.0L Turbo Engine 8AR-FTS” was adopted. Furthermore, Toyota Safety Sense P was standard on all vehicles, and prices were revised. The exterior was equipped with triple LED headlights and LED sequential turn signals (flowing turn signals). The front and rear bumper designs were changed. The taillight design was changed. New body colors were added. The interior featured LED interior lights and an electric parking brake. Welcome lamps were installed under the side mirrors. The size of the navigation system was changed from 8 inches to 9.2 inches, as in the Toyota original navigation system. The “GR” grade was added on September 19, 2017. Sales ended on June 16, 2020.

4th generation MXUA8#/AXUH8#

The full model change was officially announced on June 17, 2020, and the car went on sale on the same day.

A partial improvement (annual improvement) will be announced on September 26, 2022, and the gasoline and hybrid models will be released on October 4, 2022.

Finally, a word from the editorial team

This minor change is attracting a lot of attention. It seems that the best approach would be to maintain the current design line while further improving it. As a user, I am looking forward to seeing what changes will be made.
