BMW has completely redesigned its mid-size SUV, the X3, and announced the European model on June 19, 2024 (local time). Its world premiere is scheduled for July 11, 2024, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The new, fourth-generation X3 is the brand’s flagship model, and the lineup also includes the all-electric iX3. The letter “i,” which previously indicated fuel injection, will be removed. Going forward, the letter “i” will only be used in the names of fully electric BMW models.

BMW X3
The new X3 is 4,755 mm long, 1,920 mm wide, and 1,660 mm tall, making it 34 mm longer, 29 mm wider, and 25 mm lower than its predecessor. These new dimensions emphasize its powerful and sporty appearance and incorporate the latest BMW design language. The large, brand-designed “kidney grille” accents the grille pattern with vertical and diagonal bars. The front features a large kidney grille with optional BMW Iconic Glow (with contour illumination). The LED headlights have an L-shaped design, and the adaptive LED headlights, daytime driving lights, side marker lights, and turn signals are all generated by overlapping L-shaped light sources. Full LED headlights with cornering light function and blue design details are available as an option, as are Shadow Line lights. This emphasizes the car’s wide, powerful styling.

BMW X3 M50 xDrive
The X3 M50 xDrive features a horizontal grille design and lighting, which was previously optional on the base model, now comes as standard. Side skirts, a deep roofline, flared wheel arches, and a flush-mounted rear window accentuate the new X3’s sporty silhouette.

The curved display, which connects the digital meter and infotainment, is equipped with the latest AI technology for improved operability. The BMW Operating System 9 is used, which offers features such as over-the-air updates, music and video streaming, news, and AR navigation, as well as the ability to use a smartphone as a controller for games.

The luggage compartment has a capacity of 570 litres, which can be expanded to a maximum of 1700 litres by folding down the rear seats. Electrically adjustable and heated sports seats upholstered in Econia material are standard, with Veganza or BMW Individual Merino leather available as options. An instrument cluster made from recycled polyester is also available as an option, a first for the BMW brand.

BMW 4th generation new X3 full model change safety features
The new BMW X3 offers a wide range of standard and optional systems for semi-automated driving and parking. Driving assistants including forward collision mitigation, lane keeping assistant, speed limit information, active blind spot detection and manual speed limit assistant are standard. The parking assistant, now standard, incorporates functions such as back-up assistant and a rear-view camera.
Specifying the optional Parking Assistant Professional maximizes the X3’s automated parking capabilities. As well as using other vehicles as a guide to determine the boundaries of the parking space, the system now also takes road markings and curbs into account. Manoeuvring into and out of tight spaces can be controlled from outside the car on a smartphone using the My BMW app.
