Mercedes-Benz announced the European model of the improved new G-Class on March 26, 2024 (local time). The release date for Japan has yet to be decided.
Mercedes-Benz new G-Class improvements

- It uses the 48V mild hybrid technology that is also installed in both the G550 and AMG G63.

The latest G-Class update includes subtle redesigns of the bumpers and grille. The grille has been changed from three horizontal louvers to four. Mercedes-Benz’s new G550 features an electrified powertrain
- The G550 has discontinued the V8 and is now fitted with a 3.0L inline 6-cylinder turbocharged engine and motor, which increases power but reduces torque.
- The AMG G63’s ISG should improve low-end response and have a positive impact on the G550’s fuel economy.
The G550 ditched the V8 for a 3.0L inline six-cylinder turbocharged engine with an integrated starter-generator producing 20hp (20PS) and 200Nm of torque, for a total output of 450PS and 560Nm.
These figures compare favourably with the old V8’s 422 PS and 610 Nm of torque, but while the new G550 wins on power, it loses a bit on torque, though there’s still plenty of headroom to go around, and the revised nine-speed automatic transmission, triple differential and low-range function help it get the most out of its performance.
Mercedes-Benz’s new “AMG G63” adopts an electrified powertrain
The also updated AMG G63 promises even more performance both on-road and off-road. Its ISG, the same as the G550, produces 20 hp (20 PS) and 200 Nm of torque, partnering with a 4.0-liter biturbo V8 for a 0-60 mph (97 km/h) time of 4.2 seconds. System output remains unchanged from last year, at 577 hp (585 PS) and 850 Nm. However, the ISG should improve low-end response and have a positive impact on fuel economy.
Active suspension for the AMG G63
- The G63 comes with an optional adaptive suspension with hydraulic roll control.
Only AMG G63 buyers can order the G-Wagen’s new Active Ride Control suspension. Its hydraulic roll-control hardware eliminates the need for conventional anti-roll bars, improving wheel articulation on rough surfaces and handling on regular asphalt.
