Citroën’s popular coupe SUVs, the C4 and C4 X, have announced a minor change on October 14, 2024. This improvement will see a complete redesign of the interior and exterior, and improvements to comfort and convenience, making them even more attractive models.
Evolution of exterior design
The front face features slimmer headlights and box-shaped lower lights for a sharper impression. A new oval emblem replaces the iconic Citroën double chevron grille, creating a modern atmosphere. The skid plate also features a silver sculpted design, emphasizing the power of an SUV.
At the rear, the C4’s taillights have been moved under the rear spoiler for a more integrated and refined look. The tail of the C4 X maintains its aerodynamic design, but also features the same new badge as the C4.
Adopts a new generation platform
The new C4/E-C4 adopts a new generation platform to improve space efficiency and ensure flexibility to accommodate electric powertrains. The body size (length 4375mm x width 1800mm x height 1530mm, wheelbase 2675mm) positioned between the C3 Aircross and C5 Aircross combines ease of handling in urban areas with a spacious interior.
Improved interior comfort
The interior follows a design inspired by Parisian fashion, while incorporating the latest equipment to enhance luxury. The meter display has been enlarged from 5.5 inches to 7 inches, and combined with a 10-inch infotainment system, visibility and operability have been improved. In addition, the Citroën Advanced Comfort Seats, which use thick foam padding, provide a comfortable ride.
The luggage capacity is 380L under normal conditions, but with the rear seats folded down it can be increased to 1250L, making it very practical.
Powertrain
The powertrain lineup will vary by market, with European markets expected to offer mild hybrid, EV and ICE-only options.
The E-C4 powertrain is equipped with a 1.5L turbocharged diesel engine and an electric motor. The 1.5L turbocharged diesel engine incorporates the latest technology to deliver a maximum output of 130 horsepower and a maximum torque of 30.6 kgm. Despite its downsizing, it boasts a 10 horsepower increase over the previous-generation 1.6L engine, providing powerful driving performance from low to high RPMs. The new-generation electronically controlled 8-speed automatic transmission, the EAT8, offers three drive modes (Eco, Normal, and Sport) for optimal performance tailored to driving conditions. The E-C4 is equipped with an electric motor with a maximum output of 136 horsepower and a maximum torque of 26.5 kgm, achieving a range of 405 km in WLTC mode. It also supports CHAdeMO fast charging, allowing it to be charged to 80% in approximately 50 minutes, further enhancing convenience.
In the Japanese market, a 1.5-liter turbo diesel engine producing 130 hp and an EV model with 136 hp will be available.
Advanced safety and comfort features
The car is equipped with Citroën’s advanced safety systems to enhance safety. It is equipped with a full range of safety features, including Active Cruise Control and Lane Positioning Assist, which support comfortable driving on highways, as well as Active Safety Brake, Post-Collision Safety Brake, and Distant Alert. It also comes with a full range of driver-assistance features, including a backup camera, intelligent high beams, and hill start assistance. Furthermore, it is equipped with numerous features that enhance safety and comfort, such as front and rear sonar, cornering lamps, proximity smart key, blind spot monitor, and driver attention alert.
Release date
The new C4 and C4 X are scheduled to be released in the European market in early 2025. The price has not yet been decided, but it will be announced closer to the market launch. The timing of the introduction to the Japanese market has not yet been decided, but expectations are high.
