The BMW 5 Series is a leader in the premium mid-segment that has always been at the forefront of its time since the first model was released in 1972. It is an attractive model that combines luxury and sportiness with the generous use of cutting-edge technology and high-quality materials, and is highly popular among executives around the world.
The new 5 Series will undergo a full model change in July 2023, evolving into its eighth generation. It is available in a variety of body types, including sedan, touring (wagon), and the i5 electric vehicle (EV), to meet the diverse needs of customers.
Then, on January 27, 2025, BMW added a new gasoline-engine model, the 523i Touring, to its 5 Series Touring lineup and launched it in the Japanese market.
The 523i Touring combines driving pleasure with environmental friendliness

The 523i Touring is equipped with a new generation in-line 2.0-liter BMW TwinPower Turbo gasoline engine that utilizes BMW EfficientDynamics technology. By combining the latest technologies such as a high-precision turbo system, valve control, twin injection, and a Miller cycle engine, it achieves highly efficient combustion, achieving both powerful acceleration and excellent fuel economy.
Furthermore, by combining it with a 48V mild hybrid system, it delivers a maximum total system output of 140kW (190PS) and a maximum total system torque of 310Nm. By providing assistance when starting and accelerating, it realizes a smoother and more powerful ride and also contributes to improved fuel economy.
Refined exterior design

BMW 523i Touring exterior
The new 5 Series Touring inherits BMW’s traditional design while adding a modern interpretation, resulting in a more sophisticated styling.
The front mask, with its large kidney grille and sharp headlights, gives a bold impression, while the side view, with its long nose, short deck proportions and flowing roofline, exudes a sporty yet elegant atmosphere.
The rear view features three-dimensional L-shaped taillights and a horizontal design that emphasizes the vehicle’s width, while the roof spoiler and dual exhaust pipes accentuate the car’s sporty personality.
Spacious luggage space
Another attractive feature is the spacious luggage space that only a touring model can offer. It is 570L in normal use, but can be expanded to a maximum of 1,700L by folding down the rear seats. It can easily accommodate large items, making it useful in a variety of situations.
An interior packed with cutting-edge technology

The interior of the new 5 Series Touring is designed with the driver in mind, pursuing functionality and comfort, while the finest materials and meticulous craftsmanship create a luxurious space.
The curved display combines a 12.3-inch digital meter with a 14.9-inch touch-enabled control display, giving the cockpit a modern look.
The latest infotainment system, BMW iDrive, combines intuitive operability with a wide range of functions, allowing drivers to choose their preferred operation method, including voice recognition, gesture control, and touch operation.
It also supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, allowing for seamless integration with smartphones.
Full range of safety equipment
The new 5 Series Touring comes standard with the latest safety and driver assistance systems.
- Hands-off traffic jam driving assistance function: When stuck in traffic on the highway, this function allows you to drive with your hands off the steering wheel under certain conditions.
- Parking Assist Professional: This not only automatically parks the vehicle, but also includes a reverse assist function that allows you to back up exactly on the same route you just took.
- Parking Support Professional: When the parking space is narrow, the driver can operate the parking operation from outside the car using their smartphone.
These advanced features reduce the burden on the driver and support safe and comfortable driving.
Diverse powertrain options
In addition to the 523i Touring, the new 5 Series Touring is available with a variety of powertrains.
- Diesel engine model: The clean diesel engine equipped with a 48V mild hybrid system combines powerful torque with excellent fuel efficiency.
- Electric Vehicle (EV) Model: The BMW i5 is equipped with the latest fifth-generation electric powertrain, enabling powerful acceleration and long-distance driving.
