Toyota’s new Urban Cruiser Tizer, an OEM model of Suzuki’s Fronx, will be unveiled in India for the first time in the world. It’s cool and starts at around 1.4 million yen!

Toyota India unveiled the new crossover SUV, the Urban Cruiser Tizer, for the first time in the world on April 3, 2024 (local time). With a starting price of 774,000 rupees (approximately 1.4 million yen), it is currently the most affordable Toyota SUV in India. The base is an OEM version of Suzuki’s new Fronx .

The Urban Cruiser Tiser is not just a Toyota-badged Fronx, but has been redesigned. The newly designed front grille features a honeycomb pattern, and several changes have been made to the front bumper, LED DRL design, taillight design, and 16-inch diamond-cut aluminum wheels. Although there are subtle differences, the base is shared with the Fronx. The body dimensions are 3,995mm long, 1550mm high, and 2,520mm wheelbase.

The Urban Cruiser Tiser’s interior features a dual-tone brown and black upholstery. The SUV is equipped with a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment display (compatible with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay), automatic climate control, a 360-degree camera, a head-up display, wireless charging, and smartwatch connectivity. Safety features include six airbags, an Electronic Stability Program (ESP), hill-hold assist, ABS with EBD, and ISOFIX child seat anchorages.

The engine lineup is the same as the Fronx, with two gasoline options: a 1.0L K-series BoosterJet turbocharged engine with mild hybrid technology that produces 99 hp (74 kW/100 PS) and 148 Nm of torque, mated to either a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox; and a 1.0L K-series BoosterJet turbocharged engine that produces 89 hp (66 kW/90 PS) and 113 Nm of torque, mated to either a five-speed manual transmission or a five-speed AGS automatic, sending power to the front wheels.

I personally find the new Toyota Urban Cruiser Tizer to be a truly attractive model. Its design and price are particularly appealing. If it were to appear in the Japanese market alongside Suzuki’s FRONX, I’d imagine it could create a new market. Recently, overseas-produced models have been imported into Japan. For example, Honda’s WR-V, originally an overseas model, has now been introduced in Japan. This may signal a trend toward more overseas models being introduced into Japan in the future.

About the new Suzuki “FRONX”

The Suzuki FRONX is built on Suzuki’s latest Heartect platform, with a length of 3,995mm, width of 1,765mm, height of 1,550mm, and wheelbase of 2,520mm. It is 5mm longer, 20mm wider, and 50mm higher than the Suzuki Baleno, which has the same wheelbase. The FRONX’s footprint is roughly the same as that of the Suzuki Brezza.

The car is targeted at “young pioneers who want to stand out,” according to Frontus.
