Toyota’s new “Sienta” full model change for 2022
Toyota has completely redesigned its compact minivan, the Sienta , and released it on August 23, 2022.
Adopts ” TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) ” and “GA-B platform.”
The new generation ” inline 3-cylinder 1.5L direct injection Dynamic Force Engine M15A type ” employs a new, compact THS II engine. It is combined with a ” Direct Shift-CVT “ with a launch gear .
The hybrid model also features an E-Four (4WD) model . A newly developed double wishbone rear suspension is used exclusively for 4WD. The gasoline 4WD model will be discontinued.
It is equipped with the second-generation Toyota Safety Sense , an advanced preventive safety technology .
The car is equipped with an 8-inch or 10.5-inch display audio and supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A DCM in-car communication device is standard equipment.
It features an external power supply function (optional for hybrid vehicles) that can supply up to approximately 5.5 days’ worth of electricity for an average household.
In developing the new Sienta, we aimed to further improve the “user-friendly interior space” that was a hallmark of the first generation, while retaining the attractive features of “easy-to-handle 5-number size,” “latest safety and security equipment,” “low fuel consumption,” and “affordable price.”

The new model boasts a larger interior space than the previous model, and the adoption of a newly developed platform has resulted in excellent aerodynamic performance.
This platform has achieved significant improvements such as weight reduction, a lower center of gravity, and an increase in body rigidity of more than 30%.
The suspension employs a MacPherson strut front suspension and a torsion beam coil spring rear suspension, and by setting the minimum turning radius at 5.0m, smooth maneuvering is achieved on narrow roads and in parking lots.

This model is sure to be an entirely different vehicle, with more sound deadening and body composites making a huge difference to the ride quality.
Despite being a 5-number size vehicle, it offers a spacious interior and luxurious specifications.

With an emphasis on maneuverability in daily life, the overall height has been increased by 20 mm compared to the previous model, while maintaining the easy-to-handle 5-number size, achieving a low floor ground clearance of 330 mm. Furthermore, the height of the power sliding door opening has been widened to 1200 mm, an increase of 60 mm compared to the previous model.
This makes it easier to get in and out of the vehicle, while maintaining a flat floor with no steps, allowing for excellent access to the rear seats.

The height of the tailgate opening has been increased by 15 mm (compared to the previous model), and the luggage compartment height has been increased by 20 mm (compared to the previous model), making it easier to load and unload luggage.
Exterior design
The Sienta has always been designed with particular attention to Japanese road conditions, maintaining its size within the 5-number range. This policy remains unchanged for the new model, which also maintains the 5-number size. In recent years, there has been a trend towards wider body sizes for other vehicle models, but by maintaining the 5-number size in response to market needs, the Sienta offers easy maneuverability suited to Japanese road conditions.

Large interior space
By ensuring one of the largest distances between the front and rear seats among compact minivans, we have created a spacious interior that is large enough to fit a large shopping basket.
The interior height is 1,300 mm and there is ample headroom, creating an open and airy space.

We have taken into consideration ease of movement within the vehicle, allowing passengers to move smoothly between the first and second rows, for example.
In addition, it is equipped with rear seat sunshades and ceramic dots (sliding door glass), and the Z grade comes standard with rear seat sunshades/ceramic dots.

The interior is fully equipped with the latest features
Inside, the gauges are centrally positioned with either an Optitron gauge + large 7.0-inch TFT multi-information display (standard on the Z grade) or an analog gauge + 4.2-inch TFT color multi-information display (standard on the GX).
The front seats are equipped with an 8-inch or 10.5-inch display audio and a T-Connect SD navigation system. It is also compatible with CarPlay and Android Auto, and is equipped with a display audio. A DCM in-car communication device is also standard equipment, and connected services are provided free of charge for five years.
It also comes with “Nanoe X (manufacturer option),” which releases OH radicals containing fine particle ions from the driver’s seat vent. The layout of the switches around the steering wheel and instrument panel is very user-friendly.

Evolution through adoption of TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture)
The new Prius, released on December 9, 2015, is based on the newly developed GA-B platform, also known as TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture), which has made it possible to secure a larger interior space than the previous model. Furthermore, the adoption of the newly developed platform has enabled high aerodynamic performance, resulting in a significant evolution from the previous model, including a lower center of gravity and improved body rigidity.

A word from the editorial department
All Toyota models are excellent, and the Sienta is packed with features, but I feel it’s a great value car that condenses Toyota’s technology to date. The safety features and new engine are particularly impeccable! This may be the symbol of Toyota’s “compact minivan.” If you want to experience class-leading driving performance and fuel economy, be sure to try the Sienta and experience its charm. The new Freed has also been announced, and with both models now being new models, future sales figures are of great interest. We can look forward to minor changes and the development of special edition vehicles in the future.
