Toyota’s new “GR86” partial improvement 2023 model
TOYOTA GAZOO Racing made some improvements to the new GR86, began taking pre-orders on September 22, 2023, and released the model on November 1, 2023. In addition, a special edition vehicle commemorating the 40th anniversary of the AE86, the RZ “40th Anniversary Limited,” was released in February 2024, with a limited run of 200 units.
The EyeSight system for manual transmission vehicles on the improved GR86 model (Japan-spec vehicle) is based on the EyeSight system for automatic transmission vehicles on the SUBARU BRZ. It is equipped with pre-crash braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure and sway warning, leading vehicle departure notification, and clearance sonar with rear sonar warning. EyeSight is controlled to suit the characteristics of manual transmission vehicles, and its high level of collision avoidance, collision damage mitigation, and driver load reduction capabilities operate reliably in a variety of real-world situations, achieving a high level of both driving enjoyment and peace of mind.

The new GR86 comes standard with a hands-free switch on the steering wheel, allowing for hands-free calls while driving. Furthermore, a blind spot monitor is available as an additional option on the SZ grade and is standard on the RZ grade. Optimized VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) control has also improved driving stability and safety performance when cornering.

A word from the editorial department
The GR86, along with Subaru’s BRZ, has undergone annual improvements and is steadily evolving. The current model has been on the market since 2021, and is now in its third year, but the previous model was on sale from 2012 to 2021, so the current GR86 can still be considered an early model. We look forward to seeing the car continue to evolve with annual improvements in the future.
