The new Land Cruiser 250 is big after all! But it’s cool!
This time, I saw three actual cars, all of which were the top-of-the-line “ZX” grade. Two were First Edition “ZX”s, and one was the regular “ZX” grade. The biggest difference in the exterior between this regular grade and the normal grade is whether the windows are rounded or square.

Let’s start with the exterior. Looking at the body size, it felt large. The numerical body size is 4,925mm in length, 1,980mm in width, 1,925mm-1,935mm in height, and 2,850mm in wheelbase. However, it felt larger than the Prado. Compared to the Prado, it’s 100mm longer, 95mm wider, 85mm-90mm taller, and 60mm longer in wheelbase. It’s not just big, it’s cool.

Furthermore, I personally felt that the round headlights especially brought out the best in the Land Cruiser 250. As the design was created with the aim of returning to its roots, the design of the front grille and the “TOYOTA” logo reminded me of the old Land Cruiser.

The rear door glass hatch remained, making it possible to load and unload luggage without opening the rear door.

Toyota’s new Land Cruiser 250: Which is better, the round or square headlights?
Personally, I recommend “round headlights” as the recommended exterior. The reason is that many popular off-road SUV models have adopted the “round headlight” design, and many crossover SUVs, from Japanese cars to overseas models, have adopted unique round headlights.

There are certain grades for which you can select “round eyes”
- Rounded headlights are not available for the higher grade “ZX” and “GX” standard models.
- Special edition vehicles “First Edition ZX” and “First Edition VX” feature rounded headlights
This time, those who want rounded exteriors can only choose the “VX” grade and select the dealer option (187,000 yen), or choose the special edition “First Edition ZX” or “First Edition VX.”
The recommended grade is the new “Land Cruiser 250” special edition “First Edition” top grade “ZX”
After looking at the actual car again, I would recommend the top-of-the-line special edition “First Edition ZX” model, which is packed with all the best features of the Land Cruiser 250.

It features round LED headlights , a 12.3-inch TFT full LCD digital meter , a 12.3-inch wide touchscreen T-Connect SD navigation system , 18-inch wheels, rock rails, a front skid plate, a back door guard, a 10-speaker JBL speaker system, heated and ventilated front seats, a moonroof, and Toyota’s new Stabilizer Disconnection Mechanism (SDM), so it has nothing but great features. The only drawback is the price of 7,850,000 yen.
The interior of the new Land Cruiser 250 can easily accommodate seven adults!
The interior of the Land Cruiser 250 doesn’t have a luxurious feel to it, but overall it’s calm and I didn’t have any bad impressions. What was impressive was the steering wheel design, which seems to have been completely redesigned from the Land Cruiser 250, with the “TOYOTA” logo placed in the center.

The second row seats in the rear were spacious, and the third row seats also felt quite comfortable.

My impression after actually sitting in the third row was that it wasn’t cramped, so I felt I could ride without any problems for a certain distance.

The basic structure is the same as the Land Cruiser 300, so the author felt that the riding experience was the same.

The cargo space when the third row seats are folded down is quite spacious. With the second row seats in use, the luggage space has been expanded from 398 liters in the Prado 150 to 408 liters in the Land Cruiser 250.

There’s almost no cargo space when the third row seats are in use.

Toyota’s new Land Cruiser 250 Japanese model release date?
- Official announcement and release date: April 18, 2024
- Production begins on April 25, 2024
Toyota had planned to release the Japanese model of the new Land Cruiser 250 on March 8, 2024, but this has been postponed (due to the impact of Toyota Industries Corporation’s certification fraud , announced on January 29, 2024 ) . However, official information has been released to dealers, and the car will be officially announced and released on April 18, 2024. This time, a special edition First Edition will be sold, limited to 8,000 units. Purchase quotas will be allocated to each dealer, but the proportions and numbers will vary, and delivery times are expected to be extended, just like the Land Cruiser 300.
How many units will be produced in Japan?
- First edition: 8,000 units
- Monthly sales standard: 2,250 units (including First Edition)
The initial production run will be approximately two years, with 8,000 units of the First Edition and 59,000 units of other grades, for a total of 67,000 units.
About the lottery sale
Starting April 10, 2024, the lottery for reservations for the Land Cruiser 250 began at some dealerships . There are various situations, such as some people already know the results and others who still don’t know. Some people have won the lottery for the first edition. Also, it seems that there are many sales that are conditional.
- Past purchase history available
- Residual credit required
- Maintenance Pack & Coating
- No transfer for 1 year
If I don’t win the lottery or can’t participate, should I give up?
The question is whether those who lost out in the lottery this time, or those who were unable to participate in the lottery in the first place, should just give up, but in my personal opinion, you shouldn’t give up. Since the number of units allocated varies depending on each dealer, it might be a good idea to visit various dealers again around the release date. If you can find a dealer with a large allocation, you might have a chance to purchase one.
