Toyota Australia is steering towards a carbon-neutral future and has announced that it will discontinue sales of five gasoline-powered models, including the RAV4, which is available in both gasoline and hybrid versions, leaving nine models in Australia that are hybrid-only.
End of sales of gasoline-powered vehicles for all nine models
The Corolla and Camry sedans , as well as the Corolla Cross , RAV4 , and Kluger, are now hybrid-only vehicles. This brings the total number of hybrid-only models in the lineup to nine, joining the Yaris Hatchback, Yaris Cross , Corolla Hatchback , and C-HR , which are already hybrid-only vehicles .

This shift towards hybrids is seen as a response to strong customer demand, but some see it simply as a marketing success: Toyota predicts that hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) and battery electric vehicles (BEVs) will account for more than half of its sales in Australia by 2025.
“Our HEV market share reached a record high of 33.5% last year, jumped to 46.6% in the first five months of this year, and hit 48.9% in May,” said Sean Hanley, vice president of marketing and franchise operations. “So far this year, our total HEV sales have more than doubled compared to the same time last year to 46,821 units, and we continue to see strong demand for all models.”
