Addition of full hybrid “S:HEV” that uses Toyota’s hybrid system
It will be added later to the B-type. It will be equipped with a full hybrid “S:HEV” that uses Toyota’s hybrid system “THS .” This is really exciting. It will be a combination of a 2.5L horizontally opposed 4-cylinder DOHC + motor (THS).
Subaru’s proud horizontally opposed engine now includes a new 2.5-liter engine specifically designed for the Strong Hybrid. With a maximum output of 118kW (160PS) and a maximum torque of 209Nm (21.3kgfm), this engine delivers the exhilarating driving experience you expect from Subaru while also achieving the excellent environmental performance you expect from a hybrid.
This new engine is paired with an innovative transaxle developed specifically for strong hybrids, which compactly integrates a high-output drive motor, a generator motor, a front differential gear, and an electronically controlled coupling.
The drive motor generates a maximum output of 88kW (119.6PS) and a maximum torque of 270Nm (27.5kgfm), delivering powerful acceleration and smooth driving in a wide range of situations. By seamlessly switching between the engine and motor and making the most of the strengths of each, it delivers optimal performance in any situation.
Furthermore, it employs Subaru’s traditional Symmetrical AWD, which precisely controls torque distribution between the front and rear wheels according to road conditions, ensuring stable driving on any road surface.
This latest hybrid system is truly a next-generation drivetrain, combining Subaru’s driving DNA with environmental performance at a high level.
At its financial results briefing on May 12, 2022, Subaru announced plans to reorganize its domestic production system to expand and accelerate the development of electrified vehicles. As part of this plan, production of vehicles equipped with the next-generation e-BOXER “S:HEV,” which uses Toyota Motor Corporation’s hybrid system “THS (TOYOTA Hybrid System),” will begin in the mid-2020s.
New Crosstrek B-type partial improvement exterior design
