Mercedes-Benz released the new CLE Coupe model in Japan on March 18, 2024. The 2024 CLE is a new two-door hardtop that inherits the tradition and history of the coupe that Mercedes has built up to now, replacing the old C-Class and E-Class Coupes in one go. The CLE Coupe was announced overseas on July 6, 2023, a little earlier than in Japan.
About the exterior of the new Mercedes-Benz CLE Coupe
With a body size of 4,850mm in length, 1,860mm in width and 1,420mm in height, the car gives off an elegant image as a two-door coupe, while also providing ample interior space. The rear seats are also highly comfortable.
Mercedes Benz CLE200 coupe
As the “E” in the CLE name suggests, it’s slightly closer to the E-Class. Its 2,865mm wheelbase gives it a longer axle distance than its closest rivals, the BMW 4 Series and Audi A5 (cars that would have competed with the old C-Class Coupe). Compared to the old C-Class Coupe, the CLE offers 72mm more rear kneeroom and 60 liters more luggage space in the trunk, enough to carry three golf bags. It shares many features with the current C-Class sedan, including its nose, a relatively narrow grille with body-colored surrounds (unlike the E-Class sedan), and a hood with twin bulges reminiscent of a powerful V6 or V8.
Mercedes-Benz New CLE Coupe Interior
The car features specially developed sports seats and nappa leather straps, a first for a Mercedes-Benz. It also features a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and an 11.9-inch recumbent center touchscreen that is slightly raised from the console. First introduced in the S-Class in 2020, it’s also featured in the Mercedes-AMG SL sports car and will likely be installed in the next-generation AMG GT, its coupe sibling. Like the latest E-Class, it’s equipped with the third-generation MBUX, which boasts improved learning capabilities and ease of use.
The CLE features exclusive sport seats. The gracefully curved stitching on the backrests adds an elegant touch to the sporty seat design, enhancing the high-quality impression unique to a premium coupe.
Optional genuine leather seats (with seat heaters) are available in four colors for both the driver and passenger seats, providing the ultimate in comfort for front-seat passengers.
The rear seats feature independent left and right seats, providing a spacious and comfortable space. Compared to the conventional E-Class Coupe, the interior width has been increased by 54 mm at the shoulders, allowing rear seat passengers to enjoy a comfortable cruise. Furthermore, the seats are foldable in a 40:20:40 split, allowing for a variety of seating arrangements and excellent usability.
About the new Mercedes-Benz CLE Coupe powertrain
The “CLE 200 Coupe Sport” (ISG-equipped model) introduced in Japan is equipped with a 2.0L inline 4-cylinder direct injection turbo engine (M254) + ISG14, which delivers a maximum output of 204 PS (150 kW) and a maximum torque of 320 Nm. This is combined with the second-generation ISG14, which is located between the engine and transmission, and is capable of providing an electric boost of up to 23 PS (17 kW) and 205 Nm for short periods of time. This allows for smooth and powerful acceleration. The transmission is the acclaimed 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission.
