About the new Mazda CX-60
Mazda announced the Japanese model of the new CX-60 crossover SUV, the first in its new generation of large-size products, on April 7, 2022. The e-SKYACTIV D model will be released on September 15, 2022. Sales of other models are scheduled to begin in December 2022.
On October 7, 2021, Toyota announced plans to expand its crossover SUV product line from 2022 onwards. The large-size product line will include the two-row “CX-60” and the three-row “CX-80” for Europe and Japan, where roads and parking lots are relatively narrow. Meanwhile, the wide-body two-row “CX-70” and the three-row “CX-90” will be offered for markets such as North America, where larger size and presence are required, expanding the mid-size crossover SUV lineup.
The CX-60 features the latest exterior design, and the interior design is also unprecedented. It uses a newly developed FR platform. It is a more premium two-row SUV than the existing CX-5. It not only comes with the latest safety system i-ACTIVSENSE, but also MAZDA CO-PILOT 1.0 .
This is the first model to feature the Driver Abnormality Response System (DEA) , which detects abnormalities such as seizures or sudden illness in the driver and helps to avoid accidents or mitigate damage if an accident does occur. Models are also available that feature the Driver Personalization System, which helps adjust the driving position , and based on Mazda’s safety philosophy, MAZDA PROACTIVE SAFETY, the aim is to deliver safety and security not only to the driver, but also to their partners and family members who are riding with them.
The CX-60 PHEV is powered by a 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder e-SKYACTIV PHEV, Mazda’s first plug-in hybrid system. The electric motor, designed to optimize its performance, combines a maximum output of 100 kW with a large-capacity 17.8 kWh battery, resulting in a combined maximum output of 241 kW (327 hp) and a maximum torque of 500 Nm. Acceleration is 0-100 km/h in 5.8 seconds , delivering exceptional performance. The all-electric driving range is 63 km at speeds below 100 km/h . Four engines are available: the e-SKYACTIV-D, an inline-six diesel engine combined with M HYBRID BOOST (48V mild hybrid) electrification technology , delivering an evolved, one-man-with-the-car driving experience that can be felt from the moment you step on the accelerator, and improved fuel economy; the SKYACTIV -D 3.3 , an inline-six diesel engine that combines high power output with clean emissions through increased displacement; and the SKYACTIV-G 2.5 , a 2.5L gasoline engine that delivers nimble performance and excellent fuel economy . These engines are paired with a newly developed torque converter-less 8-speed automatic transmission, which offers excellent direct feel and transmission efficiency, to achieve both excellent environmental friendliness and driving performance that meets customer expectations . These power units, which combine high power output and environmental friendliness, are combined with a longitudinally mounted platform.
Mazda New CX-60 Exterior
The CX-60’s exterior design is based on Mazda’s “Kodo-Soul of Motion” design philosophy , featuring a deeply sculpted front fascia with an aggressive rear end. Vertically stacked headlights and L-shaped daytime running lights are eye-catching . The body color lineup includes eight options: Jet Black, Deep Crystal Blue, Sonic Silver, Platinum Quartz, Arctic White, Rhodium White Premium Metallic, Machine Gray, and Soul Red Crystal. It features 18-inch and 20-inch wheels. Despite its length and width—4,740mm, width 1,890mm, height 1,685mm, and wheelbase 2,870mm—the CX-60’s rear-wheel drive platform allows for a turning radius of just 5.4m, making it highly maneuverable for its size.

About the interior of the new Mazda CX-60
The interior features a 12.3-inch full LCD meter (TFT color) on the meter panel , the latest NEW MAZDA CONNECT , and a 12.3-inch center display . It is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. NEW MAZDA CONNECT does not have a touch panel as it is considered dangerous to operate it while driving, and all operations are performed using the commander control. An on-board communication device is standard . Connected services can be linked with the MyMazda smartphone app. It also has a large head-up display that is three times larger than that of the CX-30.

Mazda CX-60 Next-Generation i-ACTIVSENSE Advanced Safety Technology Comes Standard on All Vehicles
The i-ACTIVSENSE technology is standard equipment, along with driver monitoring, which detects drowsiness and warns the driver, and the Cruising & Traffic Support (CTS) steering assist function.
The Advanced Smart City Brake Support (Advanced SCBS) now includes night-time pedestrian detection. It also incorporates the latest features such as TJA (Traffic Jam Assist), FCTA (Front Cross Traffic Alert), DM (Driver Monitoring), and TSR (Traffic Sign Recognition System).
Mazda’s new CX-60 features the latest safety system, “MAZDA CO-PILOT 1.0”
During normal driving, the system monitors the driver and acts as a backup, detecting any changes in the driver’s physical condition such as drowsiness or loss of consciousness and issuing an alarm to warn and alert the driver. If the system determines that the driver is unable to drive, it will take over the driving duties, bring the vehicle to a safe stop, and, if necessary, make an emergency call.
Mazda’s new CX-60 PHEV plug-in hybrid model
The Mazda CX-60 PHEV is the brand’s first plug-in hybrid model to be launched in Europe. Its powertrain combines a 2.5 -liter Skyactiv-G inline four-cylinder gasoline engine with a 100kW electric motor designed to optimize performance and a 17.8kWh high-capacity battery, resulting in a combined maximum output of 327hp/241kW and a combined maximum torque of 500Nm. Acceleration from 0 to 100km/h in 5.8 seconds delivers exceptional performance, with an all-electric range of 63km at speeds below 100km/h.
RAV4 PHV powertrain
This model is equipped with the newly developed plug-in hybrid system “THS II Plug-in,” which combines the “inline 4-cylinder 2.5L direct injection engine D-4S + motor (THS II)” with a high-capacity lithium-ion battery (lithium-ion battery capacity 8.8kWh) and a powerful motor. The system output is 302 HP (225 kW / 306 PS). The EV-only range is 39 miles (63 km) and the WLTC mode fuel economy is 95 km/L, making it the longest PHEV crossover on the market. Furthermore, this model achieves an estimated combined fuel economy rating of 90 MPGe. The WLTC hybrid fuel economy is 22.2 km/L .
Acceleration performance is 0-100km/h in 6.0 seconds , faster than the RAV4 Hybrid, making it the second fastest in Toyota’s lineup . The range is over 1,300km , pursuing a “go anywhere” driving distance.
Toyota RAV4 PHV vs Mazda CX-60 PHEV Comparison
What’s particularly impressive is that the CX-60 is a PHEV with an 8AT transmission, boasting an impressive 0-100km/h acceleration time of 5.8 seconds . It also features a 17.8kWh lithium-ion battery, which is larger than the RAV4 PHV.
