Nissan’s Infiniti announced on August 22, 2024, that production of the Q50 will end in 2024. The current model has been on sale since 2013 as Infiniti’s entry-level sedan, and was the brand’s only sedan, following the discontinuation of the Q70 in 2019 and the Q60 Coupe in 2022.

The Q50 is a luxury car manufactured and sold by Infiniti, the luxury vehicle division of Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. It was launched in Japan on November 11, 2013, as the V37 Nissan Skyline.

It had its world premiere at the North American International Auto Show in January 2013. It was then unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March of the same year and the Shanghai Motor Show in April of the same year. The only exterior difference between the Japanese model is that it does not have the Infiniti mark or Q50 logo on the rear, but instead has a “SKYLINE” logo on the garnish, and the interior is almost identical except for the steering wheel being positioned on the right side and the meter layout being slightly different.

With the December 2015 upgrade, the Infiniti logo was also added to the rear. When the Skyline was first released, it was only available as a hybrid with a one-motor, two-clutch system using a VQ35HR+ motor. However, on May 26, 2014, the addition of a 2.0L inline-four direct-injection turbocharged model was announced, and sales began on June 5. A diesel-powered model was not available for the Japanese market. In July 2019, the Japanese-spec Skyline underwent a major overhaul and returned to the Nissan brand, marking another departure in appearance. The car is equipped with ProPilot 2.0 , a system that also includes pedal misapplication prevention assist , and pedestrian detection for emergency braking . The second-generation steer-by-wire system, Direct Adaptive Steering (DAS), featured in the Infiniti Q60, and the new Dynamic Digital Suspension (DDS) system are standard equipment.

Keep an eye on the future of the Skyline, the Infiniti Q50
The end of production of the Infiniti Q50 is a natural progression and should not come as a surprise. Rather than the Skyline disappearing, it may signal a transition to a new model. At this point, only the next-generation Skyline concept, the Vision Qe concept , has been announced. On March 25, 2024, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. announced its new business plan, “The Arc,” to strengthen its value and competitiveness. Thirty new models are scheduled to be released over the next three years, and the Skyline will feature prominently among them. Let’s look forward to future developments. We will keep you updated as new information becomes available.
