Honda announced on June 6, 2024, that it has begun production of the new fuel cell vehicle, the CR-V e:FCEV , at its Performance Manufacturing Center (PMC), an automobile production facility in Marysville, Ohio , USA. The vehicle is scheduled to be released in the United States and Japan in 2024.
About the new Honda CR-V e:FCEV
The CR-V e:FCEV is the first fuel cell vehicle released by a Japanese automaker to feature a plug-in function that allows it to be charged externally . While retaining the long driving range and short hydrogen refueling time of approximately three minutes that are characteristic of fuel cell vehicles, the addition of a plug-in function that allows charging at home or on the go further enhances convenience. The CR-V e:FCEV is expected to have a driving range of over 600km on a single fill-up, and an EV driving range of over 60km. In addition to the high-output power supply from the external power output device, the dedicated power supply connector that connects to a standard charging port allows for easy power extraction, providing convenience and peace of mind in all situations, including everyday use, leisure activities, and during power outages.

Based on the CR-V SUV sold in North America, it is equipped with a fuel cell system jointly developed with GM. In addition to the FCEV’s advantage of being able to travel long distances with short refueling times, it also combines the convenience of an EV with the ability to be charged at home thanks to its plug-in functionality. The new powertrain, jointly developed with General Motors, is said to be one-third the cost and twice as durable as the Honda Clarity Fuel Cell. It is also said to have significantly improved low-temperature resistance.
