About Copen
The second-generation Copen has undergone significant changes from the first-generation Copen that ran from 2002 to 2012. In addition to the high driving performance befitting a lightweight sports car, the new COPEN was developed with the aim of building a new relationship between the customer and the car through new value and form, and has achieved a new structure of a frame and resin exterior panels.

The new D-Frame frame structure, which forms the entire foundation of the new COPEN, ensures the body rigidity required of a sports car through the frame alone, dramatically improving the freedom of exterior panel materials and design. Measuring 3,395mm in length, 1,475mm in width, and 1,275mm in height, the DRESSFORMATION interior and exterior detachable structure treats the exterior panel portions of the vehicle as parts and uses resin exterior panels, allowing customers to choose designs that suit their preferences.

In addition, each part has been specially tuned to suit a sports car, further enhancing the car’s potential as a lightweight sports car. Daihatsu will continue to explore new possibilities for minicars and expand what can be done to make them even more mini in various ways.
Daihatsu has decided to release the X model, which will be the second model of the Copen, as the “Copen XPLAY.” It will be released on November 19, 2014.

COPEN XPLAY
Daihatsu has released the third model of the new Copen, the Copen CERO, which features rounded headlights. This second-generation model went on sale on June 19, 2014.

COPEN cero
This is the third model Copen with “round” headlights. At the new Copen launch event in June 2014, the only announcement made was that the third model would be released in 2015. After the new Copen was released, there were many voices saying that the “round” headlights of the first-generation Copen were better.
Daihatsu released the new Copen GR SPORT on October 15, 2019. Price: 2,390,000 to 2,435,000 yen. The lineup includes three models: Robe, Xplay, and Cero, with the GR SPORT being the fourth model. Toyota will also add the Copen GR SPORT to its lineup on the same day , supplying it as an OEM.

New skeletal structure “D-Frame”
A new concept of frame structure based on frame and monocoque structures. Compared to the first-generation Copen, it achieves high body rigidity, with approximately three times the vertical bending rigidity and approximately 1.5 times the torsional rigidity, resulting in improved handling stability and ride comfort.
“DRESSFORMATION” internal/external attachment/removal structure
The detachable structure allows customers to choose the design to suit their tastes. The exterior panel parts are fastened with bolts.

Tuning exclusively for the new “COPEN”
The car is equipped with a special suspension that realizes impressive handling stability and a high-quality ride, a sports car tuning unit, and a focus on producing an exhaust sound that creates a sporty driving sound like an open-top car.The use of resin outer panels and Daihatsu’s first resin fuel tank have made the car lighter.
Vehicle weight
While significantly improving product appeal, the car has achieved a vehicle weight of 850 kg, which is appropriate for a lightweight sports car. While significantly improving product appeal through the realization of “D-Frame” and “DRESSFORMATION” and improvements in handling stability and ride comfort, the adoption of resin outer panels and the deployment of e:S technology have reduced the vehicle weight, resulting in a vehicle weight appropriate for a lightweight sports car.
fuel efficiency
While still ensuring the driving pleasure of a sports car, the CVT model achieves a WLTC fuel economy of 19.2km/L, while the MT model achieves 18.6km/L.
Open roof
The electric roof, a symbol of the Copen, has been retained. The electric roof opens fully in about 20 seconds and can be activated with the flick of a switch. You can drive while enjoying the open feeling that only an open car can offer.
