BMW JAPAN launched a minor change model of the compact sports coupe “2 Series Coupe” in the Japanese market on October 29, 2024. At the same time, the high-performance model “M2 Coupe” has also been improved, making it an even more attractive lineup. Although the price has increased compared to the previous model, it has evolved in all aspects: design, driving performance, comfort, and safety.
The new 2 Series Coupe had its world premiere on June 13, 2024, and sales began in Japan on October 29. With this minor change, BMW aims to further increase its presence in the premium compact car market. In this article, we will take a closer look at the changes, specs, and price of the new 2 Series Coupe.
Refined exterior design

The 2 Series Coupe underwent a full model change in March 2022. This minor change saw refinements to the exterior design.
The BMW 220i M Sport now features body-colored side rocker panels and the lower rear bumper, enhancing the sense of unity. The kidney grille frame has been changed from high-gloss chrome to pearlescent chrome, giving it a more refined look.
The BMW M240i xDrive now has a sportier look. The side rocker panels and lower rear bumper sides are the same color as the body, and the Cerium Gray accents have been changed to black, giving it a more rugged look. Black is also used on the grille, door mirrors, front bumper, rear spoiler, wheels, etc., creating a sharper impression. Furthermore, the shiny parts inside the headlights have been blacked out, giving it a sharper look.
The top-of-the-line M2 Coupe is equipped with exclusive aero parts to differentiate it from the base model. This improves aerodynamic performance and contributes to driving performance.
Powertrain that enhances driving enjoyment
The new 2 Series Coupe is equipped with an improved, high-performance engine.
The 220i M Sport is equipped with a 2.0L inline 4-cylinder turbo engine that produces a maximum output of 184ps and a maximum torque of 30.6kgm. It is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and adopts a FR drivetrain.
The M240i xDrive is equipped with a 3.0L inline 6-cylinder turbo engine that produces a maximum output of 387ps and a maximum torque of 51.0kgm. Combined with an 8-speed automatic transmission, it also features BMW’s unique 4WD system, xDrive, for superior traction.
The high-performance model, the M2 Coupe, is equipped with a 3.0L inline 6-cylinder turbo engine, with maximum output increased from the previous 460ps to 480ps. Maximum torque is 56.1kgm for the 6-speed manual transmission model and 61.3kgm for the 8-speed automatic transmission model. Transmission options include an 8-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual. The FR drivetrain allows you to experience direct handling and powerful acceleration.
Interior with enhanced comfort and functionality

The interior of the new 2 Series Coupe has been given an improved quality feel thanks to the adoption of the latest equipment.
In front of the driver is a curved display that combines a 12.3-inch digital meter and a 14.9-inch infotainment system, giving the car an advanced impression. The gear selector has been changed from the conventional stick type to a toggle switch, improving operability. By arranging it together with the other switches, it is also easier to use.
Supporting safe and secure driving with the latest safety equipment
The new 2 Series Coupe comes standard with BMW’s latest safety systems, which use high-performance cameras and radar, as well as sophisticated analysis capabilities from a powerful processor, to ensure high accuracy and precision.
The vehicle is equipped with a full range of safety features to support the driver, including active cruise control (with stop and go function), lane change warning, lane departure warning, side collision protection, collision avoidance and damage mitigation braking (with accident avoidance steering), cross traffic warning, and pedal misapplication sudden acceleration prevention function.
The Parking Assistant also includes a Reverse Assist function, which stores the route travelled up to 50 metres in advance at speeds up to 35 km/h and allows you to reverse back along that route accurately, making parking in tight spaces much easier.
