The base of the new 1 Series diesel range is the 118d, powered by a 2.0-litre turbodiesel four-cylinder engine producing 148hp and 360Nm of torque, enabling it to sprint from 0-62mph in 8.3 seconds.

The top model in the 1 Series lineup remains the M135 xDrive, powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 296 hp in European markets and 312 hp elsewhere. With 400 Nm of torque, the hot hatch can do 0-62 mph in 4.9 seconds and has a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).

About the BMW 1 Series

The 1 Series is characterized by its FR layout, which focuses on evenly distributing the load between the front and rear axles at approximately 50:50 ratio, in pursuit of driving performance.

The first generation was released in Japan on October 9, 2004. It was only available as a 5-door model with the model code E87. It was announced for the Japanese market on September 22, 2014, and sales of the “120i” began on October 9, 2014.

The second-generation model was released in Japan on August 1, 2012. It was announced on June 5, 2011, and went on sale in the European market in the fall of the same year.

The third-generation car had its world premiere at the BMW Group #NEXTGen presentation platform held in Munich on May 27, 2019. It was announced that it would go on sale in multiple markets, including Japan, in September 2019.

The biggest feature of the new BMW 1 Series is the adoption of a FF (front-wheel drive) platform with a transversely mounted engine. The modular platform for front-wheel drive is the “UKL” modular platform. BMW’s main feature is the FR (rear-wheel drive) platform with a longitudinally mounted engine, but like the compact series such as the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer , BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer , new BMW X2 , and BMW X1 , the new 1 Series Sedan is a FF vehicle, and the transversely mounted engine also increases the interior space.

size New 1 Series
full length 4,335mm
Overall width 1,800mm
Overall height 1,465mm

The 10.25-inch Control Display uses the latest BMW Operating System 7.0. A 5.1-inch instrument panel display can be optionally installed (standard only on the M135i xDrive). This model is available with an electric panoramic roof for the first time. Qi-compatible wireless charging is standard on all models. It has a luggage space of 380 liters, and folding the rear bench space expands the rear loading space to 1200 liters.

The lineup includes the 116d, 118d, 120d xDrive, 118i, and M135i xDrive. The Japanese model has two engines: the 118i and the M135i xDrive. The 118d was added to the lineup on April 2, 2020.

The new BMW 118d is equipped with a newly developed 2.0L inline 4-cylinder clean diesel engine that reduces CO2 emissions by approximately 5% compared to the previous model and achieves a fuel consumption rate of 16.7km/L (WLTC). While the gasoline model offers a light and sporty driving experience, the new BMW 118d offers a powerful driving experience with a maximum output of 150PS (110kW) at 4,000rpm and a maximum torque of 350Nm at 1,750rpm-2,500rpm, as well as excellent environmental friendliness. The adoption of a two-stage turbocharger makes it possible to utilize the turbo efficiently even at low rpm immediately after starting the engine.
