Renault and Alpine announced the electric vehicle “Alpine A290” on June 13, 2024. Orders will begin in Europe. Prices start at 38,000 euros (approximately 6.41 million yen).
About the new Alpine A290
The Alpine A290 is an electric vehicle developed by Alpine, which was revived as a premium sports car brand in 2017, as its second model following the Alpine A110 . It shares its base with the Renault 5 (R5) E-Tech Electric, a new model from its group company, Renault.
The new Alpine A290 employs the latest EV platform and is equipped with a new-generation electric vehicle powertrain. This extends the driving range and significantly improves driving performance. In particular, compared to the Renault 5E-Tech Electric’s maximum output of 150 PS, the A290 offers a higher-grade model with a maximum output of 220 PS and maximum torque of 30.6 kgm. The driving system utilizes torque vectoring from the front-mounted motor to simulate the behavior of a mechanical differential, improving stability during braking and traction performance during acceleration.
About the new Alpine A290 exterior
The exterior and design reflect Alpine’s brand design and pursue a high-quality feel. The front lights feature an X-shaped design inspired by the light protection tape used on rally cars. The rear is equipped with a roof spoiler, improving aerodynamic performance. In addition, 19-inch aluminum wheels and front 4-pot Brembo brakes enhance both design and driving performance.
The Alpine A290’s body size is larger than that of the Renault 5E-Tech Electric, with which it shares its base, ensuring chassis performance that allows it to stably deliver high driving performance.
About the interior of the new Alpine A290
The interior incorporates the latest equipment and features a 10-inch digital meter and a 10-inch infotainment system. The infotainment system works in conjunction with an AI assistant using Google technology and supports over 50 applications. In addition, an overtake switch mounted on the steering wheel allows for instantaneous optimal performance. The interior space is also spacious thanks to the efficient placement of the electric powertrain.
