About the new Toyota Land Cruiser 250

Land Cruiser 250 ZX (2.8L diesel)
The vehicle uses a ladder frame based on the newly developed GA-F platform known as TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) , making it possible to achieve a spacious interior. The adoption of the newly developed platform has resulted in a low center of gravity and increased body rigidity, achieving high aerodynamic performance and achieving significant improvements. Compared to the previous model, the frame rigidity has been significantly strengthened by 50%, and the overall vehicle rigidity has been improved by 30%. The SDM (Stabilizer with Disconnection Mechanism) is being used for the first time in the Toyota brand, and by allowing the front stabilizer state to be changed with the flip of a switch, it combines off-road rough terrain performance and ride comfort with on-road handling stability. For on-road driving performance, each part has been made more rigid and EPS has been adopted.

Equipped with electric parking brake and auto brake hold function
It has an electric parking brake (with hold function). The electric parking brake and auto brake hold, which are now almost always installed in new models, and the function that keeps the car stopped even when you release the brake when it is stopped, are features that you would want to have if you were buying a new car, so it’s nice that they come as standard equipment.
Panoramic View Monitor is standard equipment on all vehicles
A panoramic view monitor is standard on all models. Although it is almost the same size as the previous model, it is a fairly large car in Japan, so being able to look down from above to help with parking is almost essential, and it is appreciated that it is standard equipment on all models.
Toyota’s new Land Cruiser 250 features a new “Stabilizer Disconnection Mechanism (SDM)”
It is equipped with Toyota’s first SDM (Stabilizer with Disconnection Mechanism), a system that physically disconnects the front stabilizer , improving road contact off-road. The addition of Multi-Terrain Select and Multi-Terrain Monitor further enhances off-road performance.
About the new Toyota Land Cruiser 250 powertrain
- Adopts a 2.8L inline 4-cylinder clean diesel engine
- Adopts a 2.7L inline 4-cylinder direct injection engine
The engines used are a 2.8L inline-4 clean diesel engine and a 2.7L inline-4 direct injection engine.
The 2.8L inline-four clean diesel engine utilizes next-generation, highly insulated diesel combustion and a compact, highly efficient turbocharger, resulting in a maximum output of 150kW (204PS) and maximum torque of 500Nm, with a WLTC mode fuel economy of 11.0km/L . The 2.7L inline-four direct injection engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission (Super-ECT), and has a maximum output of 120kW (163PS) and maximum torque of 246Nm, with a WLTC mode fuel economy of 7.5km/L.
Key features of the next-generation Toyota Safety Sense
The second-generation Toyota Safety Sense is standard on all vehicles. It uses laser radar and cameras to ensure excellent recognition performance and reliability, and also includes collision avoidance support PCS, LDA, and AHB in one package. It ensures collision avoidance support and damage mitigation performance even at high speeds.
The system supports the latest “Pre-Collision Safety” technology, including detection at intersections, low-speed acceleration suppression, and emergency steering assistance. The PCS (Pre-Collision Safety) with pedestrian detection uses millimeter-wave radar and a camera to detect vehicles and pedestrians ahead, providing warnings, brake assist, and automatic braking to help avoid collisions and mitigate damage. The automatic braking system operates at speeds between 10 and 80 km/h for pedestrians. For example, if the speed difference between the vehicle and the pedestrian is 30 km/h, the vehicle will slow down by approximately 30 km/h to help avoid a collision. It also operates at a wide speed range for vehicles, from 10 km/h to the maximum speed. For example, if the vehicle is traveling at 40 km/h toward a stopped vehicle, the vehicle will slow down by approximately 40 km/h. Additional features include low-speed acceleration suppression, detection of oncoming vehicles and pedestrians when turning right at an intersection, and emergency steering assistance.
- A low-speed acceleration suppression function that detects pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles directly in front of the vehicle at low speeds and suppresses acceleration.
- It can also detect oncoming vehicles going straight when turning right at an intersection, as well as pedestrians crossing from the opposite direction when turning right or left.
- Emergency steering avoidance support function that assists steering when the driver makes an evasive maneuver in an emergency.
The Road Sign Assist (RSA) has expanded its detection targets, and now also reads major roadside traffic signs such as “speed limit,” “stop sign,” “no entry,” and “no crossing” and displays them on the instrument panel.
The Lane Departure Alert (LDA) camera recognizes the white and yellow lines in the driving lane, and if it detects the possibility of lane departure, it alerts the driver with a buzzer and a visual display, helping to avoid collisions caused by lane departure.
The Automatic High Beam (AHB) camera detects the headlights of oncoming vehicles or the taillights of vehicles ahead and automatically switches between high and low beams, reducing glare for drivers of other vehicles and helping to ensure forward visibility at night.
Radar Cruise Control : This vehicle employs radar cruise control, which uses millimeter-wave radar to detect the distance between vehicles and the vehicle ahead, and adjusts its speed to match the speed of the vehicle ahead within a set speed range, allowing it to maintain a certain distance while following. Millimeter-wave radar and a camera detect lane changes by the vehicle ahead, allowing for smoother acceleration and deceleration control. Toyota aims for the ultimate goal of a mobility society: zero traffic fatalities and injuries. Toyota is researching and developing various safety equipment and systems based on its “Integrated Safety Concept,” striving to “develop safer vehicles and technologies,” and strengthening a wide range of traffic safety initiatives through “participation in traffic environment improvement” and “traffic safety awareness activities for people.”
Lane Tracing Assist (LTA) When driving on a highway or expressway, turning on the Lane Tracing Assist (LTA) switch while the radar cruise control is activated will provide steering assistance necessary to maintain the lane. A curve speed suppression function has been added. Driver Abnormality Response System A function has been added that detects driver abnormalities and contributes to life-saving rescue.
Curve speed control function When radar cruise control is activated, speed control begins when the steering wheel is first turned.
Leading vehicle departure notification function If you are stopped behind a vehicle in front of you at a traffic light or in a traffic jam and do not notice the vehicle in front of you starting to move, a buzzer will sound and a message will appear on the display to notify you.

Advanced Safety
Intelligent Clearance Sonar (standard equipment on all vehicles) is a system that helps mitigate collisions caused by accidentally pressing the accelerator or pressing it too hard, thereby reducing damage. The “Clearance Sonar” displays and sounds a buzzer when approaching stationary objects when parking, and now has an added function to mitigate contact with stationary objects. The sonar can also accurately detect glass at convenience stores and other locations. When driving at low speeds (below 15km/h), if a stationary object is detected in the vehicle’s direction of travel, the hybrid system output is reduced, and if the distance becomes even shorter, the brakes are automatically applied.
Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) uses radar to detect vehicles in adjacent lanes. If a vehicle enters your blind spot, an LED indicator mounted on the door mirror will light up.
Rear Cross Traffic Auto Brake: Detects blind spots when reversing and alerts the driver. If there is a risk of collision, the system automatically applies the brakes to help mitigate damage from a collision with an approaching vehicle.
Emergency brake signal (hazard lights flashing type) When you apply the brakes suddenly, the hazard lights will automatically flash.
Digital inner mirror: Images from a camera attached to the rear of the vehicle are displayed on the rearview mirror. It also has a recording function.
Remote Start (App) A new optional service that allows you to start the engine and air conditioning from the MyTOYOTA app.
Intelligent Parking Assist 2 (with collision warning function, back guide monitor function, and voice guidance function)
Toyota Connected (IoT) T-Connect DCM Package standard on all vehicles
Toyota has been using the in-vehicle communication device DCM since 2002. In 2011, they established the Toyota Smart Center cloud. This system is installed in the new Prius PHV. It is equipped with the T-Connect SD navigation system and DCM, and offers three years of free car monitoring, map-on-demand, agent, and operator services .
The car is equipped with a display audio system with a 12.3-inch touchscreen, and is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It comes standard with a DCM in-car communication device. The in-car navigation function, the T-Connect Navigation Kit, is also available as an option. Furthermore, the dedicated communication device DCM is standard on all vehicles, and the T-Connect service is provided free of charge for three years.
By connecting a smartphone with a USB cable, it can be linked (standard support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is available as an option, SDL (Smart Device Link) “TC Smartphone Navigation”, “LINE Car Navigation”, “LINE MUSIC”, etc.), allowing you to operate and use everyday map apps and music on the display. A TV (full-segment) option is required, priced at 33,000 yen (tax included) .
Not only is there no option for a “nav-less” system, but there isn’t even a “2DIN size” system for installing an aftermarket navigation system because the shape is different . In other words, it is currently not possible to install an aftermarket navigation system.

Is the new Toyota Land Cruiser 250 Japan model special edition “First Edition” worth buying?
To get straight to the point, the Land Cruiser 250 Japan model special edition “First Edition” is definitely worth buying! Its body size is almost identical to the Land Cruiser 300, sharing specifications, and its authentic off-road exterior design will undoubtedly make it a popular model. As of January 19, 2022, the Land Cruiser 300 announced that its delivery time may be as long as four years. Furthermore, prices of recent SUVs tend not to drop . I own a Harrier, and after three years, its price has only dropped by ¥500,000. The Land Cruiser 250 is expected to follow a similar trend . Toyota vehicles tend to prioritize sales, so dealer relationships are likely to become increasingly important when purchasing. (I recently purchased the much-talked-about new Alphard, and here’s my experience.)

The Land Cruiser 250 is a mid-range model in the Land Cruiser series. It will be priced lower than the base price of the Land Cruiser 300, with the prices of the higher grades being similar. Of course, we believe there is a high possibility that the price of the 300 will increase in the future.

Toyota’s new Land Cruiser 250 Japanese model release date?
- Official announcement and release date: April 18, 2024
- Production begins on April 25, 2024
Toyota’s planned release of the new Land Cruiser 250 (Land Cruiser 250) in Japan on March 8, 2024 has been postponed (due to the impact of Toyota Industries Corporation’s certification fraud , announced on January 29, 2024 ) . However, official information has been released to dealers, with the official announcement and release scheduled for April 18, 2024 , and production set to begin on April 25, 2024, so we believe the car will definitely be released. This time, a special edition First Edition will be sold, limited to 8,000 units. However, while purchase quotas will be allocated to each dealer, the percentages and numbers vary, and delivery times are expected to be extended, as with the Land Cruiser 300.
When does reservation start?
- It is expected that orders will be accepted from the afternoon of April 18th, the release date.
Many people believe it will likely be sold by lottery. The official price is said to be announced on April 10th, but we expect that actual orders will be accepted from the afternoon of April 18th, the day of release. ( Some dealers will hold a lottery in advance, and then place actual orders based on the lottery results. ) As has been said on social media, it seems that some dealers will only accept orders with a regular loan or residual value loan, with lump sum purchases not possible .
https://twitter.com/LANDCRUISER_PRA/status/1775449219924623464
About the lottery sale
Starting April 10, 2024, the lottery for reservations for the Land Cruiser 250 began at some dealerships . There are various situations, such as some people already know the results and others who still don’t know. Some people have won the lottery for the first edition. Also, it seems that there are many sales that are conditional.
- Past purchase history available
- Residual credit required
- Maintenance Pack & Coating
- No transfer for 1 year
https://twitter.com/rotti_SP/status/1779170728132362628
If I don’t win the lottery or can’t participate, should I give up?
The question is whether those who lost out in the lottery this time, or those who were unable to participate in the lottery in the first place, should just give up, but in my personal opinion, you shouldn’t give up. Since the number of units allocated varies depending on each dealer, it might be a good idea to visit various dealers again around the release date. If you can find a dealer with a large allocation, you might have a chance to purchase one.
How many units will be produced in Japan?
- First edition: 8,000 units
- Monthly sales standard: 2,250 units (including First Edition)
The initial production run will be approximately two years, with 8,000 units of the First Edition and 59,000 units of other grades, for a total of 67,000 units.
Toyota New “Land Cruiser 250” Japan Model Delivery Information
Delivery times are expected to vary depending on how soon after release you place your order and the grade and equipment you choose.
Increase production by adding more manufacturing plants?
I heard that they are increasing production by adding more manufacturing plants. I wasn’t able to find out which plants, but they are ramping up production, and it seems that the monthly production volume is high for the Land Cruiser series. However, it was popular at the time of its release, so it is expected that when sales start across Japan, the number of units produced will not be able to keep up with the number of orders. Also, it seems that the number of units allocated to each dealership will differ, and delivery times will vary depending on whether the dealership is strong or not.
Considering popular grades
Of the above grades, the most popular is the special edition “First Edition ZX,” followed by the special edition “First Edition VX” and the premium grade “ZX.” It ‘s recommended to purchase the most popular model possible, and also the model that sells well for the dealership. I’ve also heard that the number of units allocated varies depending on the number of units sold. Consider visiting various locations.

Toyota’s new Land Cruiser 250: Which is better, the round or square headlights?
Personally, I recommend “round headlights” as the recommended exterior. The reason is that many popular off-road SUV models have adopted the “round headlight” design, and many crossover SUVs, from Japanese cars to overseas models, have adopted unique round headlights.
One thing to note is that the exteriors are different, so if one model becomes popular, the number of units sold may exceed the planned number, and the delivery period after purchase may differ, so care should be taken.

There are certain grades for which you can select “round eyes”
- Rounded headlights are not available for the higher grade “ZX” and “GX” standard models.
- Special edition vehicles “First Edition ZX” and “First Edition VX” feature rounded headlights
This time, those who want rounded exteriors can only choose the “VX” grade and select the dealer option (187,000 yen), or choose the special edition “First Edition ZX” or “First Edition VX.”
Toyota dealer priority list
There is a history of continuous purchases from the dealer. (They may refuse to sell to new customers.)
You can trade in your current car.
Purchase plans, payment methods, and installment contracts are available (KINTO residual value plan).
I have asked the dealer to perform maintenance .
Priority based on vehicle model and grade selection (some vehicles may have earlier delivery times)
All of these are actually obvious. ” Continuous purchase history at the dealer ” is the easiest to understand, but for the dealer, they are important customers who can make the most continuous sales, and are the users who spend money. “You can trade in your current car ” This can also be sold on Toyota’s directly managed “used car market”, which will generate profits. ” You can make a contract on installments (KINTO, residual value plan) ” This also incurs interest compared to paying in cash, so you can generate profits from the interest. ” Maintenance at the dealer ” This also leads to profits for the dealer. In other words, no matter which one you consider, the dealer is prioritizing (points) those who will be profitable for them. You may need to keep this in mind when making a purchase.
By the way, many celebrities and minor figures have already purchased the Alphard and Vellfire, and frequent buyers tend to already own them, as can be seen on social media. I also signed a contract for the Alphard on its release date of June 21, 2023, but as of February 2024, I have not been able to get one , and I don’t know when I will be able to get one. I will write my own review once I get my hands on one.
