BYD will release its flagship electric vehicle (EV), the new SEAL, in Japan on June 25, 2024. The BYD SEAL will be priced at 5.28 million yen (tax included) and the BYD SEAL AWD at 6.05 million yen (tax included). Delivery is scheduled to begin around the end of July for the BYD SEAL and around the end of August for the BYD SEAL AWD. Only 1,000 units will be produced, with special prices starting from 4.95 million yen. The SEAL is a sporty and elegant EV sedan with a design inspired by the sea, just like the DOLPHIN. This vehicle was exhibited at the JAPAN MOBILITY SHOW 2023 at Tokyo Big Sight.
BYD “SEAL” High-end e-Sedan, a vehicle that brings together cutting-edge technology
The Seal is a very important vehicle. Like the already well-known BYD Atto 3 and Dolphin, it is equipped with BYD’s proprietary “blade battery” and shares the EV-specific platform “e-Platform 3.0.” However, unlike those models, the Seal is the first BYD model to use the brand’s “cell-to-body technology,” which integrates the battery into the vehicle structure, improving safety.

The battery is BYD’s advanced Blade battery, which uses lithium iron phosphate as the cathode material and is therefore completely cobalt-free. European models are fitted with an 82.5kWh battery pack, although a smaller 61kWh pack is also available.
The Seal series for the European market is available in several versions. The base model features a single 230 kW (308 hp) electric motor at the rear wheels, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds and providing a WLTP range of 555 km. The top-of-the-line Seal Excellent-AWD model features two electric motors with a combined output of 390 kW (523 hp). This model accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and has a WLTP range of 520 km. Both versions come standard with an 11 kW three-phase on-board AC charger and are compatible with 150 kW DC fast charging. This allows the battery to be charged from 30% to 80% in 26 minutes.
The Seal competes in the D-segment and directly competes with the Tesla Model 3. Its wheelbase is 2,920mm, providing ample space for passengers. The trunk has a capacity of 400L, plus an additional 53L of luggage space in the frunk, ensuring high levels of safety and convenience.

BYD “SEAL” JAPAN MOBILITY SHOW 2023
BYD exhibited its new flagship electric vehicle (EV), the SEAL, at the JAPAN MOBILITY SHOW 2023 held at Tokyo Big Sight. My impression after seeing the SEAL in person was that it was a fantastic vehicle.

SEAL

The exterior adopts the latest design, and its advanced style stands out. The front has a low hood height, realizing a sporty style. The rear is characterized by smooth curves and a single horizontal taillight that connects the left and right sides.

The interior is equipped with the latest infotainment system and digital meters, and what surprised me most was the high quality of the material and the large center monitor. This monitor is a tablet type that can be rotated vertically or horizontally, making it very easy to see. The Japanese model has right-hand drive.

It also supports Japanese voice recognition.
