Toyota Motor USA announced on June 5, 2024, that it will create a new special edition Corolla , the “Corolla FX Special Edition,” and release it in the fall of 2024. This marks the revival of the FX name from the late 1980s.
About the Toyota Corolla FX Special Edition in the US
This special edition takes inspiration from the 1987 Toyota Corolla FX16. But unlike past RWD hot hatches, the latest FX is based on the FWD Corolla sedan, with the mid-range “SE” trim level adding a bit of sportiness.
The Toyota Corolla FX Special Edition features a larger infotainment system, 18-inch wheels, a rear spoiler, a sportier chassis setup, and a 2.0L four-cylinder engine.

On the exterior, the FX is distinguished by 18-inch alloy wheels with a satin black finish and a new spoiler mounted on the tailgate. This special edition is available in only three colors: Midnight Black Metallic, Ice Cap, and Underground, and the roof, mirrors, and badges are always combined with a black finish. The FX also features the aggressive bumpers found on the Corolla’s SE and Night Shade trims.

The interior gets a new 10.5-inch infotainment touchscreen display mounted on the dash. This larger display is standard on the FX and will be available on other trims of the 2025 Toyota Corolla. It also comes with a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a wireless charging pad, and the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 ADAS suite.

The 2025 Toyota Corolla FX comes with a standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Its performance is the same as that of the lower-spec model, producing 169 hp (126 kW / 171 PS) and 205 Nm of torque mated to a CVT gearbox. However, Toyota has tweaked the chassis setup with a lowered suspension and different tuning of the electric power steering.
A word from the editorial department
This special edition Corolla is for the US market, and there are no plans to release it in Japan. However, there has been a recent trend of incorporating special edition vehicles released overseas into Japanese models. It’s possible that a similar black-coordinated special edition car could be introduced to the Japanese model someday.
