On June 6, 2024, the Japan Automobile Dealers Association (JADA) and the All Japan Light Motor Vehicle Association (AJMCA) announced the preliminary figures for passenger car sales by model and light four-wheel vehicle sales by common name for May 2024. Suzuki’s Spacia took the top spot for light vehicles with 15,160 units sold, beating out the N-BOX. The Daihatsu Tanto, which has resumed sales, has risen to third place.
Passenger car ranking
In passenger cars, the Toyota Yaris took the lead with 13,538 units. In second place was the Toyota Corolla with 12,263 units, and in third place was the Toyota Sienta with 8,820 units. The top two cars sold over 10,000 units each.

Light car ranking
In the minicar category, Suzuki’s Spacia took the top spot with 15,160 units, beating out the Honda N-BOX, a regular first place finisher. In second place was the Honda N-BOX with 14,582 units, and in third place was the Daihatsu Tanto with 6,174 units. Daihatsu is a regular in the minicar rankings, but sales were halted due to the Daihatsu fraud scandal , and now the Tanto has finally made it into the top three.
