About the new Sienta

There are two engines to choose from: “gasoline” and “hybrid.” There are also three grades: “X,” “G,” and “Z.” The first thing that bothers you is which engine to choose.

What grade is the new Sienta?

You can choose from grades “X”, “G” and “Z”.

  • X: Entry grade
  • G: Intermediate grade
  • Z: High grade

Until hybrids pay for themselves

This became a very difficult question when considering fuel economy and price. When comparing both grades of the “Z” 2WD 7-seater, the gasoline model is priced at 2,686,600 yen and the hybrid model is priced at 3,036,600 yen, a difference of 309,100 yen . Furthermore, the hybrid model is eligible for an eco-car tax reduction of approximately 22,500 yen . The total difference between the gasoline model and the hybrid model is approximately 286,600 yen .

Here we will calculate the cost of gasoline, and examine how much you need to drive to make up for the gasoline cost of about 250,300 yen . Based on the actual fuel consumption figures listed above,

Fuel economy for gasoline vehicles (2WD) is 13.0km/L. Fuel economy for hybrid vehicles (2WD) is 23.0km/L.

If gasoline price is 170 yen per liter

Gasoline model 10,000km = 130,769 yen

Hybrid car 10,000km = 73,913 yen

After 10,000km, the difference is 56,856 yen, so after 50,000km, the difference is 284,280 yen. In other words, this still makes up for the difference of 286,600 yen in the price of the main unit .

Even if you consider that you’re likely to get rid of your new car after about five years or even if you drive it for 100,000km, choosing a hybrid car will cost an additional 284,280 yen. Just because it’s a hybrid doesn’t mean you can choose it lightly. Furthermore, in the case of the Sienta, there’s no difference in the exterior design between it and a hybrid, so it’s not something to be proud of. Considering that the base price will be paid off by driving it for 50,000km , and that hybrid cars are more likely to retain their value when it comes to resale value (selling a used car), we recommend a hybrid car. Furthermore, hybrid cars are undoubtedly advantageous in that they allow for stable driving when carrying seven passengers, so we recommend them!

If you prioritize comfort, we recommend a hybrid car!

So far, we’ve mainly talked about price, but this time we’d like to touch on comfort as well.

The “inline 3-cylinder 1.5L engine (M15A-FKS type) + Direct Shift-CVT” model is ideal for the price, but it may not be satisfying in terms of comfort. I have driven the fourth-generation RAV4 2.0L gasoline model, and found it to be very slow to start. This model lacks torque for its weight, and although this has been improved with the Direct Shift-CVT, it still feels slow.

On the other hand, the hybrid model with the “inline 3-cylinder 1.5L engine (M15A-FXE type) + motor (THS II)” is equipped with Toyota’s specialty hybrid system. Since the start is performed solely by the motor, it has excellent torque and you can expect a smooth start. Furthermore, when using the “radar cruise control,” the compatibility between the electric control and the hybrid makes for a comfortable ride.

If you prioritize comfort, we recommend a hybrid car.

What grade is recommended? “Hybrid Z”

The grade of the car is a difficult question, but the designs of the “X”, “G”, and “Z” models are very different. For those who are not too picky about things like steel wheels or meter LCD size, we recommend the base grades such as the “X” and “G”.

Differences depending on exterior grade

When comparing the exteriors of the “G” and “Z,” we would choose the “Z” considering its appearance and convenient small features such as “chrome-plated front and grille molding,” “Bi-Beam LED headlamps, LED turn lamps, and LED clearance lamps,” “rear combination lamps,” and “15-inch aluminum wheels.”

Headlights vary depending on the grade

Wheel design varies depending on the grade

G and Z option settings

The design of the rear combination lamp differs depending on the grade.

Differences depending on interior grade

The interior comes standard with features such as a 7.0-inch TFT color multi-information display, a leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel, a driver’s seat armrest, and rear seat sunshades, so we’d definitely choose the Z.

Safety equipment differences by grade

I don’t want to be lacking in advanced technology or safety equipment, so I would choose the “Z” after all. (All grades have active cruise control (ACC) that follows the vehicle at all speeds, but unfortunately it cannot hold the car stationary. However, if you choose the hybrid grade “Z”, this is possible. ) If it’s only a difference of 300,000 yen compared to a car that costs over 2.5 million yen, there’s really no problem with choosing the “Z”.

New Sienta Grade Hybrid Z

New Sienta Grade Hybrid X

The Hybrid Z, a 7-seater 2WD, costs 3,036,600 yen, while the Hybrid G, a 7-seater 2WD, costs 2,727,500 yen. The price difference is 309,100 yen, so it depends on your preference, but in conclusion, the most recommended grade of the new Sienta is the Z Hybrid.

summary

In terms of pricing, both the hybrid and gasoline models feel cheap considering their equipment and specifications. What’s even more surprising is that the price difference between the hybrid and gasoline models is only around 300,000 yen. While there used to be a difference of around 1 million yen, considering that the difference isn’t that great now, I feel like we’re living in an age where you can choose either. If you have even a little bit of money, I recommend choosing the “hybrid” grade. At the moment, I recommend the “Z” hybrid model, which offers the most comprehensive equipment . I hope this information will be helpful when making your purchase.
