New BMW M5 2025 model adopts hybrid power with maximum output of 717hp

The 2025 BMW M5 has arrived with even more power. Most notably for BMW M fans, the super sedan finally embraces electrification, a change that may be even bigger than the transition from rear-wheel drive to all-wheel drive.

The new M5 will make its world debut at next month’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, with production scheduled to begin at the Dingolfing plant in July. The vehicle will be priced at $119,500, plus $1,175 for shipping and handling. The electrification of the new M5 marks the dawn of a new era for the M series, and expectations are high for its combination of performance and environmental friendliness. However, the weight increase that comes with electrification is likely to spark mixed reactions among fans.

BMW M5 2025 hybrid

A hybrid M5 was anticipated from the planning stage. BMW retained its roaring V8 engine. The new M5 is powered by a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, producing 577 hp (569 bhp / 424 kW) and 750 Nm of torque. This engine is based on the S68 engine found in the XM super SUV, and combined with the electric motor, it further increases overall system output. It boasts a system output of 717 hp (727 PS / 535 kW) and a system torque of 1,000 Nm. However, the hybridization has increased the weight of the new M5. It is 24% heavier than the current model, and this impact is evident in its acceleration. It accelerates from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.4 seconds, slightly slower than the current model.

Meanwhile, top speed remains limited to 155 mph (250 km/h) or 190 mph (306 km/h) with the M Driver’s Package, and thanks to the hybrid system, the car can travel up to 25 miles (40 km) with zero emissions.

BMW M5 2025 exterior

The BMW M5 is not only known for its acceleration in a straight line, but also for its ability to control power at the driver’s will. The combination of a high-revving V8 engine and electrification technology ensures stable power delivery. The 8-speed M Steptronic gearbox controls this, and a patented pre-gearing stage further enhances the motor’s output.

The new M5 features a new “Boost Control” system: a long press on the left paddle shifter switches all of the car’s systems to their sportiest settings.

The car is all-wheel drive, but can also be configured for a more rear-wheel-driven or fully rear-wheel-driven configuration, with the Active M Differential effectively distributing drive power and reducing understeer.

The chassis features specially designed engine and transmission mounts, a redesigned suspension, and a double wishbone front suspension made with lightweight aluminum parts, and a newly designed track control arm at the rear.

The exterior features a sealed gloss black kidney grille with illuminated surrounds and a luminous M5 logo. Wheel arches are three inches wider at the front and 1.9 inches wider at the rear than the standard car.

The wheels are 20 inches in the front and 21 inches in the rear, fitted with high-performance tires. Brakes are 16 inches in the front and 15.7 inches in the rear disc brakes, with M carbon ceramic brakes available as an option.

About the interior of the 2025 BMW M5

The interior is available with the BMW Individual Full Merino Metallic Leather package as an option. The steering wheel has a new design and is now heated as standard. Other standard features include M5-specific interior lighting, a Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system, a head-up display, and a Sky Lounge panoramic roof.

BMW’s 8.5 operating system aims to further reduce the number of physical buttons in the car, and the curved display features M-specific graphic icons and consists of a 12.3-inch information display and a 14.9-inch control display.
