Mercedes-Benz Japan has announced that it will launch the new G-Class on July 26, 2024. This model change incorporates many innovations , including the electrification of the powertrain with the ISG, the introduction of the next-generation driving assistance function “Driving Assistance Package,” and digitalization with MBUX . The lineup includes two models: the G 450 d Launch Edition and the Mercedes-AMG G 63 Launch Edition.

The new G-Class’ standard equipment has been significantly improved. It now comes standard with comfort features such as MBUX, wireless charging, and Keyless Go, a first for the G-Class, as well as safety and driving support systems such as steering assist and automatic restart. The off-road cockpit and transparent bonnet are also newly added as standard equipment, significantly enhancing overall performance. The G 450 d now comes standard with an adaptive damping system, which was previously optional, and the G 63 is equipped with the AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL suspension, a first for the G-Class.

G 450 d exterior changes
On the exterior, the G 450 d retains its distinctive details while adding a new front grille, front air intakes, and 20-inch AMG aluminum wheels. Aerodynamics and quietness have also been improved, with the shape of the A-pillars changed, a lip spoiler added to the front edge of the roof, and sound-absorbing materials added. The G 450 d comes standard with the AMG Line package, and a body-colored spare tire ring is also now standard. New body colors are available: Sodalite Blue, Opalis White, and Obsidian Black.
G 63 exterior changes
The exterior of the G 63 features an exclusive AMG design, including front side air intakes, an AMG crest design hood badge, brand logo projector lights, and a silver chrome AMG fuel filler cap. The G 63 comes standard with the AMG Night Package, which adds dark chrome grille louvres, black front and rear bumper trims, door mirrors, and spare tire rings. The body colour can be chosen from the new Hyper Blue Magno, Opalis White, Obsidian Black, and Night Black Magno, and the AMG Carbon Fiber Exterior Package is included when Hyper Blue Magno is selected.

The interior is the first to feature MBUX, featuring a touchscreen media display and the latest generation multifunction steering wheel. Keyless Go, a heated steering wheel, wireless charging, heated and cooled cup holders, and the Burmester® 3D surround sound system are also standard equipment. The interactive infotainment system, MBUX, can be activated by saying “Hi, Mercedes,” and many functions can be controlled by voice. Touchscreen and steering wheel touch control buttons are also available, contributing to a safer drive.
The G 450 d comes standard with the AMG Line package, which adds a touch of luxury to the interior with nappa leather seats, a nappa leather dashboard, a MICROCUT roof liner, etc. The interior color can be selected from the new colors Catalana Beige, Titanium Gray, and Platinum White, and the interior trim is black piano lacquer wood.
The newly introduced G 63 comes standard with a luxurious interior, including nappa leather seats (with diamond stitching), a nappa leather dashboard, a MICROCUT roof liner, and a nappa leather roof handle. In addition to Platinum White, the interior color can be selected from two-tone titanium gray/black and platinum white/black. AMG carbon fiber interior trim is also standard, further enhancing the G 63’s outstanding performance.
Active suspension for the AMG G63
Only AMG G63 buyers can order the G-Wagen’s new Active Ride Control suspension. Its hydraulic roll-control hardware eliminates the need for conventional anti-roll bars, improving wheel articulation on rough surfaces and handling on regular asphalt.

G 450 d engine
The new G-Class is equipped with the most powerful diesel engine in Mercedes’ history, a 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder direct injection diesel turbo engine (OM656M). This engine delivers a maximum output of 367 PS (270 kW) and a maximum torque of 750 Nm, an improvement of 37 PS (27 kW) and 50 Nm compared to the previous model G 400 d. Furthermore, by incorporating an ISG that delivers 20 PS (15 kW) and 200 Nm, it achieves both excellent dynamic performance and fuel economy.
G 63 engine
The new G-Class is equipped with a 4.0-liter V8 direct-injection twin-turbo engine (M177) produced in Affalterbach based on the “One Man, One Engine” principle. This engine delivers astonishing performance, delivering a maximum output of 585 PS (430 kW) and a maximum torque of 850 Nm. Furthermore, the addition of an integrated spring gearbox (ISG) and a 48V electrical system for electrification significantly improves power and efficiency by adding an electric boost of 20 PS (15 kW) and 200 Nm. This results in impressive performance, with acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds (European reference value).
Both engines are paired with an AMG Speedshift TCT 9-speed transmission, which is specially tuned to deliver fast shift times and double-clutch functionality, ensuring an emotional and dynamic driving experience.
