Chevrolet will unveil the Corvette ZR1, the top model of its flagship sports car, the Corvette, on July 26, 2024 (local time), with production scheduled to begin in 2025. The Chevrolet Corvette has long been the brand’s signature sports car, and the current Corvette C8, which underwent a full model change in 2020 , has been changed from the traditional FR layout to a MR layout, making it popular for its high driving performance. Chevrolet plans to conduct final testing of the Corvette ZR1 without the camouflage before it goes on sale to the public.

About the new Chevrolet Corvette ZR1

The newly introduced Corvette ZR1 is powered by the turbocharged LT7 engine, based on the 5.5L naturally aspirated V8 LT6 engine from the Corvette Z06’s C8.R race car. The LT7 engine features cylinder heads with larger combustion chambers and unique ports, turbocharged valve timing and lift profiles, special pistons and connecting rods, and a secondary fuel injection system. Additionally, the 8-speed dual-clutch transmission has been significantly improved with wider gear profiles, stronger shafts, and improved lubrication to support the LT7’s powerful power output.

Chevrolet New Corvette ZR1 Specifications

This engine produces an astounding 1,064 horsepower (1,079 hp) and 1,123 Nm (114.3 kgm) of torque, significantly outperforming the 6.2L supercharged V8 engine in the previous-generation C7 Corvette ZR1. It’s capable of a top speed of over 211 mph (346 km/h) and a quarter-mile time of under 10 seconds.

Like the base model, the Corvette ZR1 is available in coupe and convertible configurations. The coupe weighs 1,665 kg and the convertible weighs 1,705 kg. Equipped with a 15.7-inch (400 mm) front and 15.4-inch (390 mm) rear carbon-ceramic brake system, the new Corvette ZR1 is capable of accelerating from 80 to 200 to 80 mph (129 to 322 to 129 km/h) in 24.5 seconds. The new Corvette ZR1 also features a downforce-generating front hood, a carbon-fiber roof and adjustable spoiler, and 20-inch and 21-inch wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.

Additionally, the ZTK performance package is available to enhance the car’s track performance, and includes a huge rear wing, front dive planes, a Gurney lip attached to the front hood, understrakes (a replacement for the front underwing), hard springs, special dampers, and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires. The aero parts generate over 544 kg of downforce at top speed, and the Carbon Aero package can also be equipped with just the aero parts.

The ZR1 has a top speed of 200 mph (322 km/h) at the Nürburgring and can cover the quarter mile at 150 mph (241 km/h) in under 9.7 seconds on the drag strip. The coupe weighs 1,665 kg dry, the convertible 1,705 kg dry, and with 15.7-inch front and 15.4-inch rear carbon-ceramic brakes, it can accelerate from 80-200-80 mph (129-322-129 km/h) and decelerate in 24.5 seconds.

Chevrolet New Corvette ZR1 Comparison with Other Companies

Meanwhile, the Bugatti Veyron debuted nearly 20 years ago with a 987-hp W16 engine, but the latest Corvette ZR1 surpasses that performance. The new ZR1 is powered by a twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter flat-plane crank V8 engine producing 1,064 hp and 1,121 Nm of torque. This engine, called the LT7, shares many similarities with the LT6 found in the Corvette Z06, but has been significantly upgraded to accommodate the turbochargers and added performance.

The ZR1 outperforms the Ferrari 296 GTB, Lamborghini Revuelto, McLaren 750S, Pagani Huayra and Mercedes-AMG One, and Chevrolet says it is the most powerful V8 engine ever produced by an American automaker. The engine features larger combustion chambers, unique ports, optimized valve timing and lift profile, a new intake and intelligent anti-lag engine tuning technology.

Additionally, the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission has been thoroughly revised with wider gear profiles, stronger shafts, and improved lubrication. Chevrolet Executive Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter says these changes allow the ZR1 to “pull like a freight train.”

Chevrolet New Corvette ZR1 Design

Despite having more power than the Ford GT, the Corvette ZR1 is surprisingly understated, boasting many features, including a flow-through hood that draws air in through the front grille, passes it through an intercooler, and then exits through the hood for increased cooling and front downforce, a carbon fiber roof, an adjustable spoiler, and carbon fiber or aluminum wheels wrapped in Michelin tires.

The ZR1 is available in both coupe and convertible versions, with the option of the ZTK performance package or the Carbon Aero package. Inside, the ZR1 features a badged steering wheel, sill plates, and interior plaques, and the 3LZ variant features a boost gauge and unique door panel stitching.

Customers can also choose between the standard model, the king of top speed, and the ZTK performance package, which delivers track performance.
