Audi officially unveiled the new 2025 A6 e-tron on July 31, 2024. The model marks an important step in Audi’s electric vehicle lineup and will be available in Sportback (sedan) and Avant body styles. Unlike its predecessor, this generation is fully electric, offering a purely electric driving experience.

About the new Audi A6 e-tron

Following the launch of the all-electric A6 e-tron, Audi plans to refresh its existing lineup. The current internal combustion engine (ICE) A6 will receive a facelift and then be renamed the A7, in line with Audi’s new strategy of using even-numbered model names for its electrified vehicles.

The production A6 e-tron will be very similar in design to the 2021 (Sportback) and 2022 (Avant) concept cars, with subtle refinements including tweaked split headlights, more prominent black grille surrounds, traditional door handles, and wider, full-width taillights.

The Audi A6 e-tron is based on the PPE architecture, just like the Q6 e-tron and Porsche Macan EV. It will be available with three powertrains at launch, with more RWD and AWD options to follow depending on market. It’s designed to compete with the Mercedes EQE and BMW i5.

About the new Audi A6 e-tron exterior

Audi says high-tech Matrix LEDs up front and second-generation OLEDs at the rear offer eight different digital light signatures, which can be combined with an illuminated emblem on the tailgate.

Unfortunately, due to US regulations, high-tech features such as adaptive matrix LED headlights, active digital light signature, Car-to-X communication, and virtual mirrors will not be available in the US market.

Audi placed a great deal of emphasis on aerodynamics when developing the A6 e-tron. More than 1,300 simulations and wind tunnel tests were carried out to create the most aerodynamic Audi ever. The Sportback version has a Cd value of 0.21, slightly better than the competition but just behind the Mercedes-Benz EQE’s Cd of 0.20. What’s more, the A6 Avant e-tron has a Cd value of 0.24, making it the most aerodynamic station wagon in its class.

About the interior of the new Audi A6 e-tron

The dashboard and center console are largely carried over from the Audi Q6 e-tron. The dashboard houses three screens: an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.5-inch infotainment display, and a 10.9-inch passenger touchscreen. Aside from the digital display, there are two additional screens that function as virtual mirrors, as well as a host of ADAS systems.

Options include a panoramic glass roof that can be made opaque at the touch of a button, a four-zone automatic air conditioning system with fragrance dispenser and ionizer, and a Bang & Olufsen premium sound system with 20 speakers and 830 watts.

Audi A6 e-tron specifications

The base Audi A6 e-tron Performance is rear-wheel drive and has a single motor producing 362 hp (270 kW / 367 PS), while those looking for more power can look to the 422 hp (315 kW / 428 PS) dual-motor A6 e-tron quattro with all-wheel drive.

Audi will also be offering the high-performance S6 e-tron globally. Its rear-biased all-wheel drive system produces 496 hp (370 kW / 503 PS), increasing to 543 hp (405 kW / 551 PS) with launch control. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds and has a limited top speed of 240 km/h.

Spy shots have confirmed that Audi Sport is already working on the RS6 e-tron, which is expected to have an even more aggressive design and enhanced performance than the S6 e-tron.

The A6 e-tron and S6 e-tron are equipped with a 100kWh (94.4kWh net capacity) underfloor battery pack, with 800V architecture allowing for 270kW DC fast charging. The A6 e-tron has a claimed range of 720-750km, while the S6 e-tron has a claimed range of 640-670km. An 83kWh battery option will also be available in the future as a more affordable variant.

In terms of chassis settings, the optional adaptive air suspension offers four ride height levels. Activating an efficiency mode in the Audi drive select menu automatically lowers ground clearance by 20 mm (0.8 in) at highway speeds, improving aerodynamics. The base A6 e-tron comes standard with 19-inch aero-optimized wheels, while the S line and S6 e-tron come with 20-inch wheels, with 21-inch wheels available as an option.

About the price of the new Audi A6 e-tron

The Audi A6 e-tron will be available to order in Europe from September 2024. Prices in Germany start at €75,600 for the A6 Sportback e-tron Performance and €99,500 for the S6 Sportback e-tron. In both cases, the Avant body style carries an additional €1,650 premium.
