Peugeot has significantly expanded its electrified lineup of its flagship SUV models, the 3008 and 5008, in the European market. In addition to mild hybrid and standard EV models, new PHEV and long-distance EV models with significantly increased range have been added, further expanding customer choice. The announcement was made one year after the 3008’s debut and six months after the 5008.

PHEV features: Efficiency and performance

The plug-in hybrid model is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder PureTech engine and a 123 hp (92 kW/125 PS) electric motor mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, for a total output of 192 hp (143 kW/195 PS) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque sent to the front axle.

While this new PHEV offers less power than its predecessor, it offers significantly improved zero-emission driving range. Its 21kWh battery pack delivers an all-electric WLTP range of up to 84km, with charging times of just 2 hours and 45 minutes. Drivers can choose between three driving modes – Hybrid, Electric and Sport – to tailor their driving experience to performance or efficiency.

The 5008 large SUV will also be equipped with a similar powertrain, but its all-electric range will be slightly shorter at 82km. The adoption of the STLA medium architecture means that the PHEV model will have the same trunk space as the BEV and mild hybrid models.

Additionally, Peugeot has announced the upcoming launch of “Long Range 230 Electric” versions of the E-3008 and E-5008. These flagship BEVs will see their battery capacity increased from the standard 73kWh to 96.9kWh, resulting in an impressive WLTP range of 700km for the E-3008 and 668km for the E-5008.

Both long-range models are equipped with a single electric motor producing 227 hp (170 kW/230 PS) and are compatible with 160 kW DC fast charging, giving the E-3008 a range long enough to travel from Paris to Nice on just two charges.

A word from the editorial department

This news leaves a strong impression that Peugeot’s electrification strategy is now in full swing. In particular, the arrival of a long-distance EV model with a significantly increased driving range has the potential to accelerate the spread of EVs. We will be keeping an eye on Peugeot’s future electric model development and its impact on other manufacturers.
