Mazda is exhibiting at Japan Mobility Showbiz Week 2024, which is being held at Makuhari Messe from October 15th to 18th, 2024, to highlight its efforts in next-generation biodiesel fuel. The highlight is the CX-80 Biofuel vehicle, which was unveiled for the first time in the joint exhibition corner.
CX-80 Biofuel vehicle
Demonstration experiments are also underway to enable the CX-80 diesel engine vehicle, which will be released on October 10, 2024, to be compatible with this next-generation biofuel.

The venue also features a showcase that clearly visualizes the production process of next-generation biofuel. The color of the water changes at each stage, from sowing to harvesting, allowing visitors to understand at a glance how CO2 is absorbed and oils are accumulated. Because this fuel absorbs CO2 during the production process, it has the potential to contribute to the realization of a carbon-neutral society.

Development of next-generation biofuels
Furthermore, Mazda has set up a small-scale plant within its Hiroshima Plant to develop next-generation biofuels. By enabling domestic fuel production in the future, it is expected to bring various benefits, such as reducing dependence on oil imports, stabilizing prices, and making effective use of abandoned farmland.
What’s interesting is that during the research and development process, it was discovered that the same components as those found in blue fish could be extracted from the fish, opening up new possibilities beyond its use as fuel, such as the development of materials that are beneficial to health.
Mazda’s efforts with next-generation biodiesel fuel offer hope for the future, aiming to solve environmental problems while revitalizing the economy.
