Suzuki’s new “Wagon R Smile” minor change: First adoption of “electric parking brake” and “auto brake hold”

Electronic parking brake (EPB) is basically a button located around the driver’s seat that electronically controls the parking brake (side brake/foot brake).

An “electric parking brake” automatically applies the parking brake when you shift into “P” range (this varies slightly depending on the manufacturer). Furthermore, when you shift into “D” range or “R” range, the parking brake is automatically released. Vehicles that use this system do not have a parking brake (side brake/foot brake). Since the side brake is automatically applied, you can stop and start the car without worrying, reducing the burden on you.

With the Auto Hold Brake, if you press the AUTO HOLD button (this varies slightly depending on the manufacturer) while driving with the gear shifted to D, and the HOLD indicator light is on when you stop at a red light or other traffic light , the car will automatically apply the brakes and continue to do so. When the light turns green and you’re ready to move forward, simply step on the accelerator pedal, which will turn off the HOLD indicator light and release the brakes, allowing you to resume normal driving. If you have to stop multiple times in traffic jams or when there are long delays between traffic lights at large intersections, you can take your foot off the brake pedal, which significantly reduces fatigue. I personally feel that the way you tire is different when driving a car without the Auto Hold Brake.

Suzuki’s new “Wagon R Smile” minor change: Safety features

The new Wagon R Smile is equipped with Dual Sensor Brake Support II . The collision damage mitigation brake system uses three types of sensors: millimeter- wave radar, a monocular camera, and an ultrasonic sensor. In addition to vehicles and pedestrians, it now also detects bicycles and motorcycles. It also detects vehicles and pedestrians when turning right or left at an intersection, helping to avoid or mitigate various collisions.

About the new Suzuki “Solio” Dual Sensor Brake Support II

Forward Collision Warning Function: When driving at speeds between approximately 5km/h and 100km/h, the stereo camera detects vehicles and pedestrians ahead. If it determines there is a possibility of a collision, it will sound an alarm and display a warning message in the meter. It can also detect pedestrians at night.

Forward Collision Warning Brake Function When the possibility of a collision increases, the function not only issues a warning but also automatically applies light brakes to encourage the driver to avoid the collision.

Forward Collision Damage Mitigation Brake Assist Function After determining that there is a high possibility of a collision, if the driver applies the brakes hard, the brake assist function will be activated and increase the braking force.

Automatic braking function: When it is determined that a collision is unavoidable, the system automatically applies strong brakes to avoid the collision or reduce the damage caused by the collision.

False Start Prevention Function: Helps avoid collisions caused by pedal or shift operation errors. The stereo camera detects obstacles within approximately 4m ahead. If the driver presses the accelerator hard despite the presence of an obstacle while stopped or traveling slowly at approximately 10km/h or less, the system automatically reduces engine output to prevent sudden starts and sudden acceleration. Engine output is automatically reduced for up to approximately 5 seconds.

Lane Departure Warning Function: When the vehicle is about to deviate from its lane, a buzzer sounds and an indicator light in the meter warns the driver. When driving at speeds between approximately 60km/h and 100km/h, the stereo camera recognizes the lane markings on both sides. If it determines that the vehicle is about to depart from its lane, a buzzer sounds and an indicator light in the meter alerts the driver.

Sway warning function: If the vehicle sway, a buzzer sounds and an indicator light in the meter will sound to warn the driver. If the stereo camera determines that the vehicle is swaying based on the swaying pattern within the lane while driving at speeds between approximately 60km/h and 100km/h, a buzzer will sound and an indicator light in the meter will light up to alert the driver.

Leading vehicle departure notification function: Notifies the driver when the leading vehicle starts moving with a buzzer sound and a display in the meter. When the vehicle is stopped, if the leading vehicle starts moving and moves away from the vehicle more than 4m away, but the vehicle remains stopped, a buzzer sound will sound and a display in the meter will notify the driver that the leading vehicle has started moving.

Road Sign Assist (RSA) is a system that displays road signs recognized by the forward camera on the multi-information display.

Rearward false start prevention function: Four ultrasonic sensors built into the rear bumper activate the automatic brakes when they detect an obstacle behind the vehicle.

Reverse Brake Support NEW! Four ultrasonic sensors built into the rear bumper will automatically activate the brakes when they detect an obstacle behind the vehicle. Omnidirectional Monitor Camera Package (Omnidirectional Package, Manufacturer’s Option for Vehicles with Omnidirectional Monitor Camera Package) Cameras are installed in four locations on the front, rear, left and right of the vehicle. When a compatible navigation system (dealer-installed accessory) is installed, the “Omnidirectional Monitor” displays bird’s-eye views of the vehicle on the monitor, as if seen from directly above. Areas that are difficult to see from the driver’s seat can be checked on the screen, making it useful for parking in tight spaces.

Rear Cross Traffic Auto Brake: Detects blind spots when reversing and alerts the driver. If there is a risk of collision, the system automatically applies the brakes to help mitigate damage from a collision with an approaching vehicle.

The high beam assist stereo camera detects the brightness of oncoming vehicle headlights and automatically switches between high and low beams. This allows you to drive with high beams without having to switch between them, making nighttime driving safer even on roads with few streetlights.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) (with full-speed following function) NEW! Press the ACC switch on the steering wheel to measure the distance to the vehicle ahead using millimeter-wave radar, and automatically accelerate or decelerate while maintaining the distance. The distance can be set to three levels (short, medium, long). If there is no vehicle ahead, the pre-set speed (full-speed following) is maintained.

Omnidirectional Monitor Camera Package (manufacturer option for vehicles equipped with the Safety Package and Omnidirectional Monitor Camera Package) Cameras are installed in four locations on the front, rear, left and right of the vehicle. When a compatible navigation system (dealer-installed accessory) is installed, it becomes an “Omnidirectional Monitor” that displays bird’s-eye views of the vehicle on the monitor, as if seen from directly above. Areas that are difficult to see from the driver’s seat can be checked on the screen, which is useful for parking in tight spaces.

Sign Recognition Function NEW! While driving, road signs recognized by the stereo camera are displayed on the multi-information display in the meter at the appropriate time. Supports “Maximum Speed,” “No Driving Beyond the Line,” “Auxiliary Signs,” “Stop Signs,” and “No Entry.”
