Audi has completely redesigned its mid-class A5 and high-spec S5 models, announcing and launching them in Japan on February 17, 2025. The lineup includes the A5 sedan, the A5 Avant station wagon, and the S5/S5 Avant sports grades, with prices ranging from 5.99 million yen to 10.6 million yen.
The Audi A4, Audi’s best-selling model, is writing a new chapter in its illustrious history. Reborn as the Audi A5/A5 Avant, this model series is the first to adopt the new-generation internal combustion engine platform PPC (Premium Platform Combustion), which embodies Audi’s electrification strategy.

2025 Audi A5
By eliminating the traditional coupe and sportback and integrating the A4, the new A5/A5 Avant focuses on the more practical body types of sedan and wagon. This is based on Audi’s new naming rule, which assigns even-numbered model names to electric vehicles and odd-numbered model names to internal combustion engine vehicles. However, this rule was repealed in February 2025 because it was causing user confusion.

The new Audi A5/A5 Avant features a dynamic exterior design that combines sportiness and elegance. The sporty and premium silhouette with a long nose and short deck is achieved by extending the wheelbase by approximately 70 mm and shortening the rear overhang. The powerful shoulder line, three-dimensional Singleframe grille, and bold headlights that inherit Audi’s design DNA accentuate the individuality of the A5/A5 Avant.

The A5 sedan features a flowing roofline reminiscent of a coupe. The greenhouse curves sharply towards the rear, seamlessly connecting to the shallow rear window, creating a sporty impression. The electric rear hatch gate opens and closes together with the rear window, ensuring a wide opening. This combines design with practicality.
A5 Avant
The A5 Avant, on the other hand, has a dynamic roofline that gives it a sporty look. The roof spoiler and flat rear window blend seamlessly together to create a stylish design. The sharply raked D-pillars create the Avant’s distinctive sporty side view.
Audi A5 / A5 Avant: An interior that combines digital technology and comfort
The interior of the new Audi A5/A5 Avant is based on a driver-centric design concept, creating a space that pursues comfort and functionality. Adopting a human-centric design, the layout of controls and displays has been optimized to allow smooth access to necessary information. The advanced display system known as the Digital Stage consists of an 11.9-inch Audi Virtual Cockpit Plus and a 14.5-inch MMI touch display, clearly displaying the information the driver needs.
Additionally, a 10.9-inch MMI passenger display is available as an option. This display is beautifully integrated into the dashboard and allows the front passenger to access and operate information such as navigation and entertainment. It is standard on the Audi S5 and S5 Avant.
The spacious interior is enhanced by premium materials and exquisite finishes, creating a comfortable and sophisticated atmosphere. The optional Bang & Olufsen 3D Premium Sound System delivers immersive sound with 16 speakers and front headrest speakers, elevating the driving experience.
2025 Audi A5
The smart panoramic glass roof, introduced on the Audi A5, uses innovative technology with polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) film to provide sun protection while maintaining an open view. The elimination of roof trim increases headroom, creating a more spacious and spacious interior.
Audi A5 / A5 Avant: Comfort and safety thanks to cutting-edge technology
The new Audi A5 and A5 Avant are equipped with numerous advanced technologies. The newly developed 48V MHEV plus system is a mild hybrid system that improves the efficiency of the internal combustion engine and supports driving performance. Under certain conditions, it also enables fully electric driving, contributing to improved fuel economy and reduced CO2 emissions. This system is installed in the 2.0-liter TDI direct-injection diesel engine with 150 kW output and the Audi S5 and S5 Avant.

The evolved digital OLED rear lights also use 364 LEDs per unit to display high-resolution graphics. This not only improves visibility but also creates a cutting-edge image. The second-generation digital OLED rear lights with dynamic turn indicators, selectable from eight patterns via the MMI, are standard on the Audi S5/S5 Avant and optional on the Audi A5/A5 Avant.
Furthermore, the car is equipped with a full range of advanced safety features, including matrix LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, and lane keep assist, to support the driver and ensure a safe drive.
Audi A5 / A5 Avant: powerful and efficient engines
The new Audi A5/A5 Avant is available with two different power outputs: a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder direct-injection turbo gasoline TFSI engine, or a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder direct-injection turbo diesel TDI engine.
The 2.0-liter TFSI engine is equipped with a turbocharger with VTG (variable turbine geometry) and produces powerful torque from low in the rev range. The 110kW version produces 150PS/280Nm in the front-wheel drive model, while the 150kW version produces 204PS/340Nm in the quattro four-wheel drive model.
The 2.0-liter TDI engine produces 150 kW (204 PS) and 400 Nm of torque. Its newly developed 48V MHEV plus technology delivers both excellent acceleration and fuel economy. It also boasts excellent environmental performance, achieving a maximum fuel economy of 20 km/l (European reference value).
Audi S5 / S5 Avant: Enjoy sporty driving

The Audi S5/S5 Avant, the sports grade of the Audi A5 series, is equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 TFSI engine. This powerful engine delivers a maximum output of 270 kW (367 PS) and a maximum torque of 550 Nm, delivering dynamic acceleration and sporty driving.
This engine also uses the 48V MHEV plus system for improved efficiency and environmental friendliness, while the updated S tronic dual-clutch transmission handles the higher torque, delivering smoother shifts and better response.
Equipped with a quattro all-wheel drive system, a rear sport differential with torque vectoring, and 19-inch aluminum wheels as standard, the Audi S5/S5 Avant is a model that allows you to fully enjoy the sporty driving that is unique to Audi.
Audi A5 / A5 Avant edition one: Express your individuality with limited edition models
To commemorate the launch of the new Audi A5/A5 Avant, a global limited edition model, “edition one,” has been released. Based on the S line, this special model features exclusive equipment for the limited edition model. The front air inlets and diffuser trim feature magnesium gray accents, and the 20-inch Audi Sport aluminum wheels feature three different colors, highlighting the exterior’s individuality. Two body colors are available: Magnet Gray and Glacier White Metallic. The interior color is a special pastel silver.
