The most notable feature of this improvement is the improved functionality of the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). Previously, ACC was a system that maintained a safe distance in response to the acceleration or deceleration of the vehicle ahead, with a set upper limit. However, with this improvement, the minimum operating speed has been significantly lowered from the previous limit, and it can now even operate at 0 km/h, i.e., a complete stop. This frees the driver from having to operate the accelerator or brake, making for safer and more comfortable driving, not only on highways and ordinary roads, but also in traffic jams that are frequent in urban areas. If the vehicle ahead stops, the new Triton will also automatically follow and stop, but for safety reasons, the driver must apply the brakes themselves to maintain the stationary state. This is a design feature that prevents overconfidence in the system and encourages constant attention to driving.

Some styling changes have also been made. In particular, the top grade “GSR” comes standard with a styling bar that emphasizes the unity between the cabin and cargo space and creates a more stylish form, but what is notable about this improvement is that it can now be selected as an option to remove this styling bar. This makes it possible to meet a wide range of needs, including users who prefer a simpler and more functional appearance and users who prioritize cargo space loading capacity.

Furthermore, a new body color, “Impulse Blue Metallic,” has been added to the entry-level “GLS” grade. This vivid, high-brightness blue further accentuates the Triton’s strength and dynamism, giving it a sporty, active impression. It will stand out in a variety of scenes, including outdoor leisure activities.

About the new Mitsubishi Triton

Mitsubishi Motors positions the Triton as an important model in its global strategy, with sales in approximately 150 countries around the world. The first-generation model was released in Japan in 2006, but sales were discontinued in 2012. However, in recent years, in response to growing demand in the Japanese pickup truck market, the Triton will undergo a full model change in 2024 and be reintroduced to the Japanese market for the first time in 12 years. This latest annual improvement comes just one year after its reintroduction, demonstrating Mitsubishi Motors’ strong commitment to the Japanese market.

To summarize the changes made in this latest improvement, first, as mentioned above, the minimum operating speed limit for the adaptive cruise control (ACC) has been expanded to 0 km/h. This is expected to make a significant contribution to reducing driver fatigue in traffic jams. Next, the top grade “GSR” now comes with a styling bar-less option, which is another major change that expands user options and meets a variety of needs. Finally, it is worth noting that a new body color, “Impulse Blue Metallic,” has been added to the “GLS” grade, allowing for even more unique styling options.

When the Triton is reintroduced to the Japanese market in February 2024, it will have undergone significant evolution. It will feature a new generation of brand design, reimagined with a powerful and modern exterior design. The diesel engine’s output has also been improved, resulting in more powerful driving performance. The body size has also been enlarged, improving interior comfort and cargo capacity. Furthermore, the vehicle’s advanced safety systems have been enhanced, providing high levels of safety that meet modern safety standards. The latest comfort features have also been adopted, significantly improving the quality of the vehicle. Furthermore, Mitsubishi Motors’ proprietary four-wheel control technology, Active Yaw Control (AYC), has been newly adopted in the Super Select 4WD-II, delivering excellent driving performance in all road conditions, from on-road to off-road.

The exterior design of the new Triton features Mitsubishi Motors’ new-generation design concept, Dynamic Shield, on the front face, conveying a sense of strength and stability. The design, which shows attention to detail such as sharp headlights and a three-dimensional grille, makes a strong impression on the viewer.

The body size of the double cab model is 5,320 mm in length, 1,865 mm in width, and 1,795 mm in height (this may vary slightly depending on the grade and specifications), giving it a dignified presence. The luggage space is also ample, making it suitable for a wide range of uses, from business to leisure.

The powertrain is equipped with a high-output diesel engine. While the specific specifications vary depending on the grade and specifications, it delivers sufficient torque and power, providing not only comfortable on-road driving performance but also excellent off-road performance.

One of the Triton’s greatest attractions is its excellent driving system. The Super Select 4WD-II system selects the optimum drive system depending on road conditions, achieving both stable on-road performance and excellent off-road capability.

The fuel economy is also relatively good for a pickup truck, and the latest diesel engine and sophisticated vehicle design make for economical driving.
