On January 11, 2024, JADA (Japan Automobile Dealers Association) and Zenkei Jidosha Kyokai (All Japan Light Motor Vehicle Association) announced the latest figures for passenger car sales by model name and new light four-wheel vehicle sales by common name for fiscal year 2023.
The Honda N-BOX took the top spot among minicars with 231,385 units sold. It also led the way in total vehicle sales, making it the top car for the second year in a row. Among passenger cars, the Toyota Yaris took the top spot with 194,3647 units sold.

Among passenger cars, Toyota’s Yaris took the top spot with 194,364 units sold. In second place was the Toyota Corolla with 154,870 units, and in third place was the Toyota Sienta with 132,332 units sold. The top five cars all exceeded 100,000 units. In terms of manufacturers, Toyota had eight vehicles in the top 10, showing an overwhelming number of sales. It is interesting to note that these two vehicles were not made by other manufacturers, such as Nissan and Honda, who did not make the list.

2023 Kei car sales ranking
Honda’s N-BOX series of minicars will surpass 2.5 million units in cumulative sales by the end of 2023, the fastest ever for the company. Furthermore, sales of the N-BOX for fiscal year 2023 (January to December) reached 231,385 units, making it the top-selling new car, ranking first for the second consecutive year. It also marks the ninth consecutive year that the car has topped the list for new minicar sales.
