Mazda announced on January 19, 2024, that it will end sales of the domestic model of its flagship model, the MAZDA6 (sedan and wagon). Production of the domestic model is scheduled to end in mid-April 2024. Orders will also end once production volume has been reached.
About Mazda “MAZDA6”
The first generation Atenza was launched in May 2002 as a mid-size car that symbolizes the brand message “Zoom-Zoom” and fully embodies the brand’s DNA. Since then, the car has undergone two full model changes, consistently embodying the “joy of driving” while pursuing the universal and essential values of a car.
“MAZDA6” A message from Mazda
Kazuyoshi Todo, Executive Officer in charge of Domestic Sales, said, “All previous generations of the Atenza and Mazda6 have been favored by many customers for a long time, with a cumulative total of 226,437 units sold in Japan as of the end of December 2023. Going forward, the Mazda3 will take over the role of sedan, and the CX Series will take over the role of wagon, providing customers with a lively experience through driving pleasure that is in line with the times.”
About the current Mazda “MAZDA6” model
Mazda has made product improvements to the MAZDA6 and will release it in late December 2022. This time, the company has added a special edition vehicle, the MAZDA6 20th Anniversary Edition, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the launch of the Atenza (MAZDA6) in 2002 , and began accepting reservations on December 9, 2022.
About the new Mazda6 20th Anniversary Special Edition
This special edition vehicle expresses gratitude to customers for the 20th anniversary of the launch of the first-generation Atenza in May 2002. The body color is the fourth in a series of special paint colors using Mazda’s unique “Takuminuri” paint technology, the new “Artisan Red Premium Metallic,” and is being used exclusively in Japan for the “MAZDA6 20th Anniversary Edition” for the first time. In the highlighted areas where light hits, a fine, transparent red shines vividly, while in the shaded areas, a high-contrast expression creates a deep, rich look, highlighting the strength and beauty of the car’s shape. (The “MAZDA6 20th Anniversary Edition” is also available in “Rhodium White Premium Metallic,” the third in the “Takuminuri” paint technology series.)
