Toyota Industries announced on January 29, 2024, that irregularities had been discovered in three new automobile engine models due to engine emissions testing irregularities. Of the 10 models affected, six are sold domestically, including the Hiace and Land Cruiser 300, and the company announced on January 29, 2024, that it would suspend shipments of diesel-powered vehicles until February 1, 2024.
However, according to the online edition of the Nikkan Jidosha Shimbun , in addition to all 10 models, production of the Alphard/Vellfire (Inabe No. 1) and Land Cruiser 70 (Fujimatsu No. 1 and Yoshiwara No. 2), which are produced on the same line, will also be halted. The timing of resuming shipments after February 1, 2024, will be determined based on instructions from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
Toyota Motor Corporation temporarily suspends shipments of all 10 models, including the Land Cruiser, Hiace, and Hilux.
The vehicles equipped with the affected diesel engines include the Land Cruiser Prado, Hiace, Granace, Bongo Brawny Evan (Mazda), Dyna, Dutro (Hino), Hilux (overseas), Fortuner, Hilux (Japan), Innova, Land Cruiser 300, and LX500d. Toyota Industries has re-examined the affected engines and mass-produced vehicles and confirmed that they meet the engine output standards, and has stated that there is no need to immediately suspend use of the vehicles.

“We will provide a thorough explanation to the authorities and promptly take appropriate measures, such as conducting on-site testing. Toyota, which has transferred its diesel engine business, will continue to provide support for the revitalization of Toyota Industries’ engine business. Going forward, we will be involved in company-wide restructuring activities and will review our operations to ensure that safety and quality are given top priority,” the company said.
Regarding the discontinuation of production of the Alphard/Vellfire and Land Cruiser 70
The suspension of production of all 10 models, as well as the Alphard/Vellfire (Inabe Plant 1) and Land Cruiser 70 (Fujimatsu Plant 1, Yoshiwara Plant 2), which are produced on the same line , will be limited to a few days until February 1st, which is a relief. I am also waiting for the production and delivery of my Alphard, so I am worried that the delivery date may be extended further.
