Regarding the contents of the discussions with a view to future collaboration

In order to further accelerate efforts toward a carbon-neutral and zero-traffic-accident society, it is essential to strengthen the areas of environmental technology, electrification technology, software development, etc. Therefore, the two companies believe that it is necessary to combine their strengths and consider future collaboration, leading to this agreement.

Specifically, the two companies will consider a wide range of areas, including in-vehicle software platforms, core components for battery EVs, and complementary products.

Honda has previously collaborated with GM and Sony.

If realized, this would be a historic partnership. Honda has previously collaborated with Sony to establish a joint venture, Sony Honda Mobility (SHM), and announced the Afira , moving toward commercialization with advance orders expected to begin in the first half of 2025, with the car scheduled for release in 2025. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in North America in the spring of 2026.

In April 2020 , General Motors and Honda Motor Co., Ltd. of the United States agreed to jointly develop a new mass-market battery electric vehicle (BEV). On October 25, 2023, Honda’s joint development of a mass-market battery electric vehicle (BEV) with GM was canceled. However, joint development of the new electric vehicle itself has progressed, with Honda and GM releasing the BEVs ” Prologue ” and ” Acura ZDX ” using a common platform, and the ” CR-V e:FCEV ,” recently announced in Japan, also features a fuel cell system jointly developed with GM.
