Jaguar Land Rover will be fully redesigning the new Range Rover Velar and releasing it around 2025. The current, first-generation model has been on sale since 2017, and eight years after its release, it will be fully redesigned into the second generation and finally converted into an BEV. The company is currently planning and developing BEV versions of its existing lineup, and the first of these, the Range Rover Velar EV production prototype, has been captured on camera for the first time, along with spy shots. Land Rover aims to transform into ” a fully autonomous, modern luxury car manufacturer by 2030. ” By 2032, the company plans to offer EVs for all Jaguar and Land Rover brand models.
About the new second-generation Land Rover Range Rover Velar EV
- Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA)
- The Range Rover Velar is Land Rover’s first BEV model
The production version will be built using Jaguar Land Rover’s Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA), which will also power the company’s future electric vehicles. It will be the first of a series of new Land Rover BEV models produced at the company’s revamped facility in Halewood, UK, followed by the Range Rover Evoque and electric successors to the Land Rover Discovery Sport.
Spy shots of the new second-generation Land Rover Range Rover Velar EV
- Adopts a new generation exterior design.
- It is likely to have an 800V architecture.
- Positioned to compete with the Porsche Macan EV

The prototype, spotted in the freezing cold of Finnish Lapland, is heavily camouflaged. While its sleek silhouette is apparent, its low-floor design suggests it may be focused on highway performance rather than off-road capability. In other words, it may not be the flagship Range Rover, which is expected to maintain its tall, boxy, off-road-oriented design. It’s speculated to be a successor to the Range Rover Velar, but it’s unclear whether the EV version will retain the same name. At the rear, we can see parts of fairly slim LED taillights, and the tailgate appears to be enlarged, while the rear window appears to be redesigned to be more compact.
The next-generation EV will be positioned to compete with the Porsche Macan EV and will be an SUV with a focus on on-road performance compared to the Range Rover. Jaguar Land Rover has yet to announce the official specifications of its upcoming EV, but it will likely have an 800V architecture. It will have towing, wading, and off-road technology, and will “go beyond,” just like other luxury electric SUVs.
- Land Rover’s first electric vehicle, the new Range Rover, will debut in 2025 and be fully electric by 2030.
- Land Rover’s new Range Rover Velar 2025 model will begin accepting orders in Japan on January 25, 2024
- Porsche finally officially announces the new Macan, a full model change. The second generation will only be an EV model. The Macan Turbo is faster than the 911 GT3.
